Hey guys. I'm contemplating building a short barreled 7mm to run supressed. My current rifles are all 24" or longer. I k ow if want to have a 7mm caliber. What cartridge works best out of a shorter barrel. 7-08, 7wsm 7 saum? Idk. Help me! Haha most shots will be from 700 yards on in

That depends on many factors. Bullet weight, velocity, atmospheric conditions and impact velocity needed to insure expansion. A friend of mine used a 7-08 w/nosler 140's for his elk inside 500 yards. Saum or wsm might be the way to go

WSM or SAUM. I would choose the 7SAUM due to the availability of components (brass), shooting heavies, and the range you want to achieve. I think it's a bummer the 7 WSM's brass and rifle availability is scarce. Great cartridge. Also, you will find more than a few 7SAUM shooters/hunters/loaders on this forum that will help you. I love my SAUM but shoot mine old school. Good luck!

Thanks for the help!

I am shooting a 22" 7SAUM with a 160 AB at 3,070 MV. It' good out to 650 with good expansion.
It's easy to load for and components are available. Great cartridge. I shoot suppressed with a Ti can and that controls felt recoil very well.

The 280 ai and 7 saum are virtually identical in performance, so I would pick the short action saum to keep overall gun weight down.
We also stock a full line of 7 saum ammo to choose from.

I'm shooting a 7 SAUM 22" barrel out of a short action origin. 136gr shock hammers go 3350 for me and still fit in a short action Magwell
