Shim thickness for gaining scope elevation adjustments

I have a scope mounted on a 20moa tappered solid base and recently sighted in the rifle for a 100 yd zero and it used up 29 moa of scope elevation. The scope has a total of 100moa adjustments.

This may not be too important but if I wanted to "get back" some of this moa and have more for long range work, then roughly what thickness shim(s) do I put under the rear of the scope base. I assume there is a "rough" formula for this based on how they tapper the 20 or 40 moa bases.

I am not 100 % certain but i think it is 1moa per .001 @ 100 yards. I have been told you cant use more than .020 or it will bend your scope. mine had 20moa left so i used a .020 taper shim and i only have 3 moa left so its real easy to get back to zero because it will only go 3moa past zero. no more going to many turns back
