He said more and more people are in the market for anyone's email address and pay for it,then they spam them.
I am not sure how they make money from email addresses but I trust my son.
It's a shame this goes on but I guess that's the world we live in now.

That has been going on forever.

About 12 years ago I got a call from the a local car/truck dealership saying my new car is ready. What new car I asked. Didn't you just buy a new car? I said no! I had to go to the dealership to prove I was not the person that bought the car. They even told police I was not the guy they sold the car to. Deal was cancelled. They have video of the guy but never found him as far as I know.
Someone opened a Go Bank account in my name. The person that opened the account was not in the USA.
Opened a request for social security to pay them for corona virus help. Again I had to go to the social security office to cancel the request..I froze my credit information so no one else could get the info.
More stuff I can't remember!
It is getting worse. My son said the countries most often responsible for things like used to be a few, Russia, Ukraine, Iran and a few more I can't remember. Now the I T specialists are overwhelmed with new tactics to spam people.
People in some countries are going hungry and send their smartest children to college to get enough education to make money from the internet for them.
This world is changing. Glad our forum is changing also.
I am clear now and have great credit but all be very careful of those that have no Christian background.

Did he say why?
My son is also in IT. He said it is because of e-mail and spear phishing and that people are too stupid to respond to unknown/junk e-mails and traps. I never open any e-mails I do not know/recognize. I do not even answer my family's call if they do not tell me they have changed their number. 🤣

I know this thread is a little old but I recently talked to a computer tech that was in the military and trained for things like these.
He also went to school to be a programmer and stays busy.
I asked him this question and he said he has several email accounts, all different. One for friends/family, and others are for shopping and others are for different companies he uses.
He said there are people in Russia that live on such a small amount and lives on the poverty line. They have nothing to lose by trying to make a few dollars doing things not leagle even for Russia. Other countries have government scams to make money as they are very poor.
Like FEENIX I do not open emails I don't know to be good. One said it was from Microsoft but the address did not say that so I deleted that.
All be careful as it has more than doubled this year alone and not expected to slow down.
I am in the process of putting together at least 3 email addresses.

I'm still using the same address from the time I started with gmail. There a lot of email I don't open, and delet. I have closed all my credit tracking accounts. I don't open any and generally just one company. Then close just after that. Now you got me wondering. I was hit with a renew here too,

I am not really computer knowledgeable all that much and rely on those that know more than me.
Mike Matteson, I try to be careful but got caught some years back. Maybe being more careful will help.
I wish there was a community center class on things like this as I am not the only one who got spammed and took about 10 years to get it all straight.
I have great credit now but for a while I lived in fear as my name and email address was on the dark web.
Like FEENIX said, don't open any email you don't know anything about.

Yet! Some companies get hit with info going out on the the Dark Web. Soc Sec got hit too. Both my wife got exposed in that. So I closed both of us so company can't look into our credit rating.
At one time still might be alive a person has the same name as me in the county I came from. That was interesting to say the least. First time a got a call from some gal not to long after I got out of Vietnam. She was p*ssed at me for not showing up at her place. 2nd time I was purchasing a car and borrow the funding. My credit was crap for some reason. Finally they touch a better look at it. They screwed up the Soc. Sec. #'s. Finally the 3rd time. While I was away as a medical safety person for a Boy Scout winter camping trip. Came home after it ended. Open up the front door to my home. There was firearms all over the place in different rooms. Loaded to the hilt. I don't allow that in my Home. Them found out that somebody had called here at home. He was come to kick my *ss. My oldest son finally told him to come on. We take care of you, if you show up. The Scout Motto "Be Prepeared" They Were! 😁🤣 A no show.
