scope upgrade questions

I have a couple of Vortex PST I 4-16X50 on an AR10 and long/heavy AR15 that I am looking to upgrade. Wanting a little higher magnification but these are not really precision rifles (both PSA's with Timneys and "some" upgraded parts, adj gas blocks, LWBCG etc)

Assuming a really close to cost price for most major brands, what are some good upgrades to go with for AR scopes? Wanting to go x20-x25 for paper punching. Like to keep it at +/- $700 per scope.

already looking hard at the Ares and Chronus for sure (the Chronus for a different rifle)

A friend whose opinion I value strongly recommends the Athlon scopes. I have a Burris XTRii that I really like. You can often find the Burris in the classifieds here.
