Scope Resale Value

I've got the nx8 you want. I like it but $ for $ I like the Arken more. Bought 3 ffp arkens with rings and scope covers from camera land ny for less than one shv nf during a sale/special. Cannot complain at all. Zero issues with any of them. I still have nf on my do or die rifles but I'm buying more Arkens.

Kudos on your commitment to have no credit card debt. Regardless of the rate it is still debt and makes one a "borrower" ...

I like the idea of an Arken to start with and to use while you save... Just be warned: you might decide you don't want to spend the extra 1000-1500 or more when you experience how good the Arken is.

Either way, if you buy it on sale, you should be able to get 75% of what you put into an Arken back out so long as you don't beat it up...

I would love to do that, but I refuse to have credit card debt and current funds only allow for around 1k of expendable cash (that is above what I already factored in for some ammo and scope rings). I "need" to start shooting this thing and would like a stepping stone to have a little fun before I can justify the nightforce.

My wife and kids gifted me a Springfield Waypoint in 6.5prc for Christmas. The eventual goal is to top it with a Nightforce NX8 2.5-20, but I have to squirrel money away for awhile to get there.
Maybe you guys can point me in the right direction for the time being. I am looking for a mil scope with a tree reticle, ffp, exposed elevation turret, and illumination for under $1000. Any suggestions for a scope with a 3-4 lower and 15-20 upper end for under $1000. So far I am looking at the vortex pst 3-15, primary arms glx 3-18, and maybe something in the burris xtr line.
My question is, among those choices, or any other options you might suggest hold their value best on the used market? Thanks
I would buy an Arken 4x16-$299. 6x24-$329
Or 5x25-$539. You will not regret it. They are excellent scopes. I shoot steel and P dogs out to 1,000 yards with them.
PS. I also have several Nightforce scopes including the NX8 2.5x20

If you have a scope you like now. Swap it back and forth for now. As long as rings& rails are good, record the adjustment and pass the glass around. Continue saving till you can get another

To answer the question about Burris Xtr's. And a few others …

I have 4 scopes in the magnification range you are interested in-

** Below is my option and experiences**

2.5-20 nx8 - Great function and features. Love this scope.

3.6-18 mark5- Glass is better than nx8, performance is identical- beat it with a rubber mallet and spent all fall in the truck and on my back, dropped a few times…never lost 0.

3.3-18 xtr3- glass is close to the mk5, turrets esp parallax are stiff when cold. Function is good. (Picked it up for $900new Definitely a great buy)

and a ts2.5-20. Reticle is my only hang up too big at 20x. to be useable for any target work past 18x. Functions well, for the rifle it on though.

Get a burris veracity Ph. I have 2 and use it on multiple rifles. It's programmable for multiple loads...multiple different rifles. It shoots to 1000 yds ...repeatedly...after programing in your load. I guess it on a 6.5 prc, 280ai, 7 rem mag, 35 whelen for deer hunting in iowa. Love them. Just change rifles, zero at the distance programed in and use the heads up display. So simple. I've seen them for sale around 800 bucks. Good luck.

I had a Sightron STAC that was crap and sent it back. The Vortex I have is nice but at the advise of someone from another site I bought an Arken 4-16x FFP but I went with the MIL dot reticle. I'm impressed with that scope and see no need for a NF.

It's outside of the zoom range you're looking at but I've been well pleased with my DNT 7-35x. It's basically an arken but from what I've read of others experiences they spec'd better glass.

I shot a deer a couple weeks ago right at dark and I had no issue making out details on him at 16x. For $600 it's a lot of bang for the buck. Got mine from Doug at cameraland.

Just one more thought. What is your goal. Are you going to be shooting competitively?
Are you planning on a once in a lifetime hunt where a long range shot is likely?
If not and you really can't afford it then you don't need a pricey scope like NF. Seriously, an Arken or Athhlon will serve you well and give you more money to spend on ammo for more practice.
