Scope problems

I hate to add insult to injury but, those pump and semi model Remingtons!!! Oh boy…..

Goodness and wowzers How can ya'll hate the old pump action Remingtons. I had a Model 760 Gamemaster in 30-06 with a 4x9 Leupold scope. My dad got it as a loan payment when I was a kid (or something, I haven't been a kid in a very long time). The first time I shot it I thought... well... I can't put what I thought here. It'll turn it to stars. Lots and lots of stars. I'd equate it to being run over by a bull or something painful like that. I was trying to sight it in. I finally gave up and asked a friend of mine (big ole boy) to sight it in. He shot it once, let out a bunch of stars, then told me to sight it in my own 'stars' self. Out of the kindness of my heart I gave it to my younger sisters husband (also a big lad). Knowing him he sold it. That rifle sucked...

Depends on the use. Minnesota deer hunting probably fine depending. As long as it groups minute of deer.

Make sure there are no paint bubbles on rings and bases that you already have. I once had a 40 MOA "paint bubble" on a set once. Shaved it off and everything was fine after that.

Truth. I know a family in the UP of MI. They get a lot of 30 yards and under shots.(50-60 is a long shot to them) Most of them use levers and autos. They have really small clearings they sit in and shots happen fast.

Sometimes when a grand son, nephew, cousin or some such of a friend pulls into my driveway with similar issues wanting me to fix it I feel the same way. Toss it in a closet, close the closet door, go to your local GS and buy a Ruger American, savage or a number of other brands that will shoot lights out for you. I'm getting to old and grouchy for this stuff.

I thought that Mikecr was pretty harsh (OK real harsh) with his response, then later while rereading all of the posts…..I found that I had missed the rifle.

Mikecr may have the best solution! Remove the scope……call it a heavy timber rifle! memtb

This is a gun that i worked on for a friend. Its an older remington semi auto 243. Its a weaver style rail now with flathead screws. I dont know much more then that right now. It looked like it may have been 0 moa. It has new leupold medium rings. There's not enough elevation.

Try low rings? The scope height mught jus be too big. Unless its a big obj and wont fit.

Check where you are in the windage travel. If you are maxed out or near maxed out on windage, you will have very limited elevation. If that is the case, then maybe you can remount the rail with an eye toward getting it aligned with the bore. Just depends on how it fits the top of the receiver. (Just looking for solutions that don't involved too much muckery.)
