Both Side Focus and Adjustable Objective (AO) do the same thing. The side focus is generally preferred by most because it is more convenient and easier to operate because you don't have to pull your eye away from the scope or reach to find it. Just easier to fine tune while you continue to aim.
As to whether or not Leupold can add a CDS dial - it depends on the model. I do believe they make custom turrets for their other scopes, as does Kenton Industries.
