Savage 12LRP, 260 REM load fine tuning

Yup!.............I can put up a NRA small bore target with ten circle targets on each sheet. I usually put one in bullseye on each target everytime, but shoot a five shoot group, had to quit, I only shoot three now, because my 4th and 5th start to wonder. Shoot three and start over, shoot three repeat. Then average the group.
Or, move your target back to 300-400 yds where you can't see the bullet holes.
At 400 yds my .260 was shooting .75" groups to 1.79" groups, depending on wind and me.

4831 SC with a magnum primer worked for me. I also had great luck with the 123 A-Max for a 1580 yd Prairie Dog kill in WY last year. I know it just doesn't "BC" out, but the 140 A-Max and 142 SMK just stayed in the air too long and ended up drifting way of target in a 4-5 mph wind at that distance.
At 1000-1200 yds my 140 A-Max and 142 SMK were great.

Using a Savage target action, Walther 28" barrel .260 Rem match chamber 1-8 twist.

In my rifle the 142 SMK, 140 JLK's and 123 A-Max worked out the best.

i built a savage 260 around 4-5 yrs ago old sav action (flat rear), shilen 26" barrel, aluminum full length bed fiberglass stock, custom trigger, 20 moa rail.
my go to gun/favorite. one shot hits, to this day still sub moa to 1000yds. this is what i use to show friends interested in shooting "long range" when they make that first shot hit at say 600yds they look back and say how did I do that? most of them tell me they have never shot past 150yds. Anyway.

H4831sc, 142smk, rem 9 1/2 have been my best loads with es below 10, all my testing consisted of 10 shot groups (2737fps). I still try other combos but h4831sc and rem brass ( i know) rem 9 1/2 primers. I am over 1000rds on this barrel now. H4831sc charge im using is just under 46gr.

Tried light bullets in mine it would lock my bolt so sticking with 142smk.

I think I got a picture of my rifle.

.260 1-8 twist match chamber Lothar Walther stainless 50 barrel 28", super heavy compaired to most barrels. B&C medalist stock, 3@ S&W 15oz recoil reducers. Pillers, bedded, weighted to 20 lbs, 8 oz trigger pull, 20 MOA base, 6-25x56 LRS mildot Millet scope.
