I have a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 270WSM and it is terrific.
I am still working up a load for it however it seems to like most anything I have put together.
It will be my mountain/light weight rig for sheep and goats someday.
The Tikka gets my vote.

So wife has the T3 light and its in a 243. It a slick little shooting gun. It shoot about 3/4 inch groups with over the counter. I have a savage 116 in the 6.5 with the accu stock and trigger. It shoots 3/4 with over the counter and .5 with hand loads. Once I got a conistant 1/2 group that was repeatable I quit trying to tweak it more. I actually love the savage and the accur trigger breaks very well. Mine has all bottom metal hinged mag that is inside the stock and when release it allows the bullets to just fall out. The barrel is a flutted semi heavy barrel with no muzzle break. I will say this the T3 light..I'm +1 on not going over something like a 30-06 as well. the rifles are just so light. I was actually some what suprized as to how much recoil the little 243 had. So for me I'll say go with the savage and I always go stainless.

Here is my opinion. I really like my Tikka T3 Lite in .270wsm. Great shooting rifle. Recoil is not bad at all. Out of the box it was shoot sub moa groups with factory ammo. The only problem that I see with the Tikka is that aftermarket parts are very limited. If you are looking for a rifle to build off of you are probably better off going to the Savage. More availability of parts and much easier to work on with limited tools/knowledge. Either way they are both good rifles and will be fun to shoot.

No matter what you go with the overall truth, which is the quality between Tikka and Savage . Yes you can find parts for Savage easily, almost like the 700's..Stock out of the box Tikka will OUT PERFORM as a hunting rifle against ant Tactical Savage.. The comparison here is huge, Savage is just a very low quality rifle. No matter how much you tweak the hardware and upgrade, hand load to the best powder and powder charge for the caliber, Determine seating depth etc. It is not a smooth shooting Rig. I shoot a TRG 42 338 Lapua Magnum, My brother went with the Savage 110 338 because it was cheaper in price. He has tweaked the living crap out of that Rig and cannot even keep up with me.. The point I am trying to make without knocking Savage is simply the quality of Tikka/Sako is far superior. No competition..

I am not sure about that. I mounted the limbsaver before I mounted and sighted in the scope. It does change how the rifle shoulders a little. The limbsaver is a little different angle than the factory recoil pad. If you do decide to go with the Tikka let me know. I still have the limbsaver pad for the factory stock and I no longer have a need for it.

TRG is made by Sako. Excellent quality and very accurate rig.

Tikka is the cheaper versions of rifles made by the same parent company. As I understand they have use the same bolts, actions, and barrels.
Berretta imports them into the US.

There is a lot of people who like shooting Tikkas and there are lots of replacement parts and items that can be bought and installed or replaced on Tikka rifles. There are even web forums dedicated to people who shoot Tikka rifles. TikkaShooters.com is one that I know of off the top of my head.

I have a hunting rifle in each (Tikka and Sako) and think that they are excellent choices for out of the box accuracy and the fit and finish is top notch.

Yes the Sako TRG is a complete system. , but the Tikka is not the cheaper version. It is made just like the Sako's. Chrome molly barrel, vaulted action etc., The only thing that makes a difference is the stock and a muzzle brake.. A simple fix, either have it bedded or install a aluminum bedded stock (H&S or Bell & Carlson). They even have a tactical version, shoots lights out. To answer your question one would look at what it takes for a Rifle to be called higher end.. Tikka is a higher end rifle, don't be fooled by the price, with very minor tweaking and in the hands of an average shooter it can perform as good as a TRG.. Down the road you would need to change the barrel once the original is shot out THAT's IT.. Could you say that about Savage? People buy it and have the action worked on and even change the barrel right away. You have to use a certain type of brass or else it makes the bolt stick from fire forming.. I have never had these problems in my Tikka, even when I jam the bullet and use the max powder charge.. One more example: Compare the Sako TRG to AI the TRG is half the price but shoots as good if not better than the AI (from personal experience)..
