$850 for a stock and another $200 for a recoil lug, no thanks, if I'm gonna spend that kind of money I'll just buy a new rifle.

Not for sure but I would be willing to bet if you contact Chad Dixon of longriflesinc he could take your action and an uninletted stock and build one for you no problem. He builds a 3d computer model of all the actions and cnc inlets the stocks, not to mention one of the best bedding jobs in the business. If interested just google his business and give him a call. He is always more then happy to discuss stuff with people.
I definitely feel your pain. I've got a TRG-S (M995) in .338 Lapua that I am wanting to re-barrel with a 1-10 polygonal heavy barrel. I can get the barrel installed for under $400. The stock is going to cost me close to $900. That just seems wrong. Here is what I have found:
Option 1 - I can get a McMillan stock for right about $500. Then I have to buy bottom metal which I think I can get from McMillan also for about $175. So I'm almost $700 into a stock. I was looking at their A3 stock. Since I am already spending so much money, I honestly don't think it makes much sense not to go ahead and pay the extra $160 to get the stock with the adjustable cheek rest. So now the price tag is around $850, just for the stock and bottom metal.
Option 2 - This option has just recently come to my attention. KRG is making a really nice looking stock that they are working right now on cutting a model to fit the TRG-S. They call it the Whiskey-3 Welcome to KRG The price is right at $850 but would not need to replace the bottom metal as it comes with its own and it looks to be nicer, and it also has an adjustable cheek rest. So it is about the same exact price as the McMillan, but it has a rather nice advantage: it takes AICS magazines. This could be a disadvantage if you prefer the flush mount factory mags that come with the TRG-S, but I like the extra magazine capacity of the AICS mags. My factory TRG-S .338 Lapua mags hold 3, the AICS hold 5. Another benefit to the AICS mags is that they have recently started making a version that are longer to allow for a longer COL. This is indeed an advantage for .338 Lapua. But the biggest advantage I see in the AICS mags is the mag release. I've always been disappointed in the factory TRG-S mag release. It seems a bit skimpy and it is difficult to operate, especially with gloves and its almost impossible with mittens. The AICS mags have a rear mounted paddle style mag release. That is very nice. They generally run about $80 so they are about the same price as a factory TRG-S mgazine.
So, my research to find a less expensive option for a stock for a TRG-S actually yielded a more expensive option, but one that I am very intrigued by. I think I am going to go that route, but it will take some time to come up with the funds for this project. I've talked to a guy (via email) at KRG and it sounds like the Whiskey-3 will not be available for the TRG-S until late summer anyway.
I never intended to "trick out" my TRG-S to be a full bore sniper rifle. I always liked the light weight tapered barrel for hunting. It is only my desire to shoot heavier bullets up to 300 grains that put me on this path. I need 1-10 rifling to shoot the heavier bullets. If I'm going to pay for a new barrel, it does not make sense to not put a heavier barrel on a .338 Lapua. The heavier barrel requires a new stock. It does not make sense to not get the adjustable cheek rest if I'm going to spend that kind of money on a new stock. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a new stock, I should get the one that uses the better magazine...so that's where I'm at now.
Sorry for rambling on. I hope you find some use in something I have said here.

Did you ever get your krg chassis? I also have a m995 and krg is saying that they don't have anymore for sale and won't be producing another chassis for it except for their habu which is over 3k$!!

I have a M995 7mm STW and having the same issues finding a stock. Waiting for McMillan to respond as I was told they are "researching" whether the thumb-hole "A-TH" platform will accommodate the M995.
Regarding the magazine, mine is quite difficult to remove. Does anyone know of a replacement aftermarket mag they've had success with?

I found that xlr industries has a chassis called the xlr evolution hd that will seat the 995 action and takes CIP length accuracy international mags!! All kinds of adjustments and accessories and excellent customer service, from what I've read. I will be getting one of their chassis for mine when funds suit it. They're from $950 on up, depending on the optional accessories and stock configuration you choose.

Pacific tool & gauge is making bottom metals for the 995's... if your smith is up to it you can make a sako 85 inlet work for a 995 by layering bedding to match the 995. Fairly involved job, but it can be done. Two here at our place have been built on sako 85-inletted stocks.. we used MPI silhouette thumbhole stocks specifically. They're excellent. Shaved approx. 1.5lbs off the overall weight as well, much nicer to carry!
Regarding different magazines, a 5-shot TRG-42 mag will work with a bit of tuning... (they) latch on the back side of the magazine, 995 latches on the front.. what I did was measure/mark the spot of the latch (onto the -42 mag) then drill a centered-hole in that spot just big enuf to get a (small) triangle file inside, much like a guy uses to sharpen fish-hooks* Then used that to file the corners and form that drill-hole into a square to match the size for that latch..
I should mention, a TRG-42 mag costs a pretty penny.. but IF you absolutely must have a new mag or "want" 5-shot capability, it's about the only option there is.

That's great information, I really appreciate your help and insight. McMillan emailed me this morning saying that their A-TH wouldn't work with the M995. So relieved to hear there's a workaround so I can get the thumbhole.

I had a sako TRG (M995) and bought the KRG stock and it was outstanding. I think I did have to use a few washers durning install to get everything to work. It was a great "chassis" though. Gun still shot 3-4 MOA groups so I finally sold it and now gave up on the Lazzeroni thing.
My gun was sick (looking and feeling) and I think the stock was very good (accuracy international expensive though)...never did shoot as well as any factory Remington or savage though.
But I truly don't blame the stock...I blame lazzeroni. But then again he does know a lot more than I do, so it is probably all my fault. I only seem to get accuracy with wimpy standard cartridges.
Someday, someone needs to teach me how to make a super magnum shoot well. As for now I have thousands of dollars tied up in boat anchors...anyone want to buy a *** McMillan Tac-338?
