Sabot yes or no

What are the benefits to running a sabot and are they necessary? I see Parker has the target hunter that can be run in a 45 cal but only with a sabot.

Not in CO for hunting

Sabots allow more bullet options, better bullet technology, faster muzzle velocities and sometimes better sealing/accuracy

Sabots are all I shoot in my Muzzleloader and rifled shotgun! Way better seal than lead
Everything about them is better! I load up 3 tubes with bullet in sabot and 3 White Hots
1/2 dozen primers and I'm on my merry way!

Sabots here in upstate NY and nothing but Blackhorn 209. Wouldn't use any other powder even if it was free.

Here in Colorado a muzzle loader is considered a primitive weapons hunt not the cutting edge of technology. No sabot's, pellet powder, or scopes. Amazing I have managed to take elk & deer over the years with my own cast bullets & Lyman Great Plains 54 cal ML.

sabots are the weak link in a custom smokeless ML they will give up holding psi long before full potential is reached.

I am frustrated with Utah and the rules for "muzzle loaders" here, scopes, sabots, pellet powder, you name it you can use it here.

Sabots have always been the weakest link. Both 50's and 45's can and are shooting without sabots. For the 50's, the Fury star tip bullets sized properly are absolutely deadly on game and with the right charge very accurate. They are limited to around 300yds or less however. Best practice is the proper fitting bullet and loading force with a .518"/.060" veggie wad.
With the 45's, more and more people are shooting without sabots, with exceptional accuracy and at long range. Depends on the rifle rather a veggie wad is required.
Sabots and hot weather don't mix very well...…...
