Rifle mounted tripod?

Tripod with arca is awesome. Shot to 1000 with no issues. In the picture is 800 on a 10x10 at the long range school. Zero issue hitting and staying on target.

I have a tripod and arca rails on most of my distance rifles including hunting. Seeing the effectiveness on one of my forays convinced me to try it. Trained people were making standing hits at over 1k. They had all sorts of tricks for using a strap to add some stabilizing tension.

I'm not sure the accuracy of your previous information. I have not seen such an issue. But theres people out there who can screw up just about anything.

I've made my own for my night vision rigs. Being that it's for NV the shots are not long range, but I can see how it could be.

What I did was take one of the "rail risers", drilled and tapped it 1/4 x 20 so I can bolt it to a common photo tripod. I welded ears on my bolts so I done have have tools if the inverted riser gets loose. I also use risers that I can tighter by hand...works pretty good so far.

Took this picture last Mondayafternoon...

Here is the video from monday...

The tripod needs to be more controlled with larger calibers. I can shoot my 6.5 fairly easily and group well from a tripod. However, if I jump to the 338, I have to focus significantly more. shooting prone from a bipod it's about the same between the two, but I have to practice more with the tripod for the larger caliber

Here is my setup, this was on a whitetail hunt this past season. I was able to take a buck, and without the tripod would not have taken the shot. Was 475yds and had sage to shoot over.

Farmer,
That sure looks like a Mosin Nagant! That's quite a poke for the 7.62x54R...congrats on that shot!

I didn't like any that were on the market and didn't want to add much extra weight. This is what I came up with. I pocketed my stock to accommodate it, and I can still run a bipod if I want. But it's the same baseplates I made for my spotting scope and binos. Arca Swiss style. Held in place with a 1/4-20 and helicoil in my stock. Very rigid. 547691C0-29AF-4A57-9B9F-7588BD97D66E.jpegC2764E0E-58D3-41DA-A722-198C08A6EEF3.jpeg

This is what I hump. Not exactly light. But it can be used with my range finder and binos as well. I like arca rails over saddles. One of the best stocks I've ever installed one on is the new accustock. Drill and tap right into the aluminum chassis.

Had a few minutes for practice. Went out back. Plunked down in the snow, unstrapped, kneeling. Dialed 20 mils, held for the wind and first round hit at 400 on a 6" gong.

12FV, take off accu stock, 52gr TNTs over way too much 4064. Bought the farrell high base, wish I had gone with the low base.
