Hello all I am wondering how are the newer winchester model 70 rifles my dad was asking me how they were now a days he was looking at a model 70 coyote light with threaded barrel and I started doing some checking and can't find much on the new model 70s and I wasn't able to find anything on a accuracy garentee or anything like that I know the rifle he was looki g at is 1/12 twist which is kind of dumb to me and it's chamber in 308 win.i would like to hear what any one experience is with the newer model 70s and do they have an accuracy garentee.thanks

I have an earlier model FN Coyote Light (35 prefix serial number) that I changed trigger and bedded action only. Shoots sub MOA w/ reloads. Running 140 AB and RL-23 at 3025MV. No complaints here. Ground blind at the end of the road. Built a M-70 FN EW in 264WM but it's rebarreled w/ 8T Bartlein so now the Coyote is my backup.

I own 4 M70 FNs. Haven't seen a quality problem w/ any. Bought 2 new and 2 used. I rebarreled from 9 to 8 twist and heavier contour(3B) for the 140s and 156E. Bought a used EW and rebarreled to build 6.5PRC. These 2 got triggers and bedding, channeled to fit barrel profile and squared since I'm there already. I prefer a 2-3 lb trigger on hunting rifles and couldn't get there w/ the Accu Trigger. I would be looking at this one to minimize upgrades and proceed w/ load developement

I own 2 EW M70's, buddies have several others. 300WSM and 25-06. Mine are Models made in USA, not Portugal. Solid rifles, accuracy in the 1 moa or better range. As noted above, hard to get a read as manufacturing location varies, but mostly I see and hear positives on all newer M70/FN made rifles.

There are more accurate factory rifles out of the box like Tikka in this price range. But if you are an M70 fan like me… these FN made M70's have been solid.

That's the problem with M70 right now. I badly wanted one in maple, but they kept changing manufacturing locations frequently. No way to get a read on quality.
Following. I just bought a new M70 Super Grade light maple in 264 Win. I haven't had a chance to make up some break in loads but the thing sure is pretty and a delight to hold.

I had the last iteration of the Stealth in .308 with a 1:12 barrel I think marked New Haven (really can't remember right off hand). The quality was good and the accuracy was around a half MOA using Federal GMM with 175gr SMKs. I wouldn't say the bolt was as slick as a Tikka, but certainly better than a Bergara B14 or similarly priced 700 clones. I think they are great hunting rifles if you want to pretty much just shoot them as is from the factory. There are a few options for upgrades like a Timney trigger which was a noticeable improvement over their MOA trigger, but that is about all I would do if I were to purchase another. Mine was even skim bedded from the factory so I didn't mess with that until I changed stocks.

Got an older one in .270 & love it. (Doesn't answer your question - sorry)

I own three newer M70's. Two i bought used the last one a 6.5 Creedmoor i bought new. I am a fan of the model 70 but know that some other guns may be more accurate. However for a hunting rifle my guns are accurate enough for me. I have developed reloads for these guns and all three will shoot 3 shots into .75 inchs or better.I love the looks and feel of the Featherweight

I have several including one EW in 30-06, two 7x57s and one .270. Overall the rifles have been excellent shooters. The EW and the 7x57s have been the most accurate (in their calibers) that I have ever had and I've had a bunch! The .270 has a 3.5lb trigger pull, the others 3 lbs. All with no creep and minimal over travel. They will go no lower.

Edited to add these M70's are South Carolina models. 👍

Mine is made in New Haven. About 2005 or 6 I think. It shot OK out of the box. but after Acraglass bedding the rear portion of the Featherwieght stock and a recessed target crown, it consistently shoots 1/3 MOA for many years now. My groups at 200 Yards are always about 0.72".

I would like to hear from someone who has one of the new ones. Design is sound if the machine tolerances are tight, it can be a great shooting rifle.

What cartridge is your M70 chambered for?
