It was the last day of the long range shooting class given by Shawn Carlock of Defensive Edge. The three shots went into 3 inches at 835 yards. That's pretty good long range shooting. But what if I told you this long range shooting group consisted of 3 first-round hits shot by 3 different shooters using 3 different long range rifles?

That is an incredible school and a story to get the adrenaline pumping! I sure wish I had the "country" back here in the East to do some really long range shooting like that. Loved the story, wish I could have been there! Best put it on my "bucket list". Do you think a 260 with 140gr. bullets would hold up to those yardages?

Very nice article Len! Enjoyed the commentary and the added pics/video hit the spot. Looks like these classes have incorporated some new and interesting features. They do provide outstanding service...from building custom firearms to practical, hands on training. Worth every dollar!

I want to go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool:

I'm signed up for this years advanced class! Can't Freaking wait to go!

Went in 2011 to the basic class and was one of the best vacations that I have ever been on! Between shooting and the Idaho mountians Awesome!

Shawn and Bob were both excellent Teachers , and I've never laughed so much in my life! Was hard shooting sometimes due to all the laughing!

June can't come soon enough never mind that it's -35 C today up here!

Sounds like a perfect couple of days. Please elaborate on the succesful bear fight and cast!

Len,

This is a GREAT site, UNQUESTIONABLY. lots of good wisdom to be discernd.

Shawn is a professional and great teacher, I totally respect both of you.

I differ with this excerpt;

1 shot instant kills are what makes a hunter.

Everything else is target practice.

Hunting isn't a sport but a conservation responsibility and the meat must be eaten by someone.

You can't hunt accurately at 2500 yards with less than 50 bmg and take an animal consistently with 1 shot.

So why shoot at it?

Len and I took the class just a week apart. Upon arrival we found Shawn in a cast. The story around Rathdrum metro was, it was a confrontation with a griz and the bear was still in traction and a body cast being fed through a straw.

what has that to do wth what I wrote?

have you ever been face to face with a 1200 pound brown bear at 20 yards?

let alone one that was off season and hungry...

Re read what I wrote.

get yourself a ...... hunting knife... make it 10 inches or longer and you can experience live and in color.

Are you replying to my post? If so, please note I quoted "Grit" and was answering his question about Shawn's broken arm.

The put to sleep stuff I received this morning as part of a upper GI procedure has quite worn off!!!

SO, Take your attitude into your 'man cave' and keep it there! Also, get real on the purpose and function of long range hunting, you may have to move a wee bit west to even begin to catch on!

And Finally, you may also wish to trade up starting with your Thudy Thudy!

PS: :D You mess w/Broz you me with me........... and most probably a few others......lightbulb

Back in my hole I go.....

Roy, sorry you had to go through that. Stop trying to hide stuff from the Misses and you won't have to go through this. Hope you are OK!:)

Because you learn much that will help you out at lesser ranges.

And, many here shoot rifles that are as good and better and some much better ballistically than a 50BMG at 2500 yards.
