...need a good "formula" for cleaning rust from the bore of a "neglected" rifle...thanks

Try JB and Kroil on a tight fitting patch. Short stroke the barrel. As a LAST RESORT, 0000 steel wool pushed thru with a loop jag works, it's a real pain in the ***. Just make sure you get any steel wool splinters out, because they will rust if they get damp. Used these methods on a buddies 1903, they worked. As always oil the bore when you are finished.
