remington barrels??

I am sure there are others on here that are better knowing. Everything I have heard about remington barrels is they are cheap, mass produced. But have heard the barrels that come from the custom shop are better then the mass produced barrels. I have a sendero and I am certain my barrel is already shot out and I have not even had it a year. Also still don't have a load figured out for it. But for the money I would go with a custom gun. I wished I would have.
hey thanks for the info. I have a remington 700 sps in a 270 and anything 300 yards or farther is not impressive at all. Thats why I was wondering if the barrels on a bdl,cdl or the xcr are any different as far as accuracy. Alot of people say there remingtons shoot lights out so I was wondering if I just have a bad one or what the deal is. My remington vssf2 in a 223 is awsome...shoots less then a 2in group at 400 yards. Thats why im so dissapointed in my 270. So if anyone out there has a suggestion of a good left handed 308 or 300 win mag that could be accurate out to 6-700 yards im open to suggestions.

All the barrels for Remington rifles are produced off the same machinery and all hammer forged. Can't say about the custom shop guns.
If you have a SPS that don't shoot its probably due to stock. Thats where the big difference is other than cosmetic's. Triggers can be adjusted and if the crown is bad it can be re crowned but the stocks on those things suck. Toss the stock and put something decent on it like a H.S. Precision or a Bell and Carlson with the aluminum bedding blocks.

put a BERGARA .308 on it. you can do it yourself, and they are tack drivers ! I have built 4 for myself ( different cal.)and sold several more to friends, and all are stellar performers.
my experience is different- i have 6 long action magnum senderos.( i have two of the short action varmint type) they flat out shoot . my son and son in law ; shooting two different ones in a 1000 yard match each shot a 15 shot group you could cover with a sheet of notebook paper. none of mine have ever shot bigger than an 1 moa with any load i tried. yes their barrels are hammerforged. i have two senderos with krieger barrels they shoot awesome.
i have the same experince- the sendero and heavy barrels seem to shoot awesome. the lighter sporter weights ho humm. i would put a krieger barrel on your exsisting gun. or get a sendero it will work for left or righties.

I see you recommend the bergara barrels. Ive been wanting to build my own rifle but have been a little intimidated by the whole headspacing thing. I watched the video they had on there website and it does look simple. They say you need a chamber gauge, i was wondering where i could get one and for how much. Any other tips that you would have on this would be great because i think i might give this a try

i have several rem. barrels from ss, sps, bdl and all but one shoot well . Most have averaged 1/2 moa. i cant tell you the details how they are made but i have a dozen of real shooters and tes the sps stock is a piece of crap. Believe it or not the one i couldnt get to shoot was a 22-250.

I 'm beginning to think the issue needs to be addressed. Yes, factory barrels are hammerforged for $. Why can't they be improved w/ Tubb bullets and give some thought to matching the rifling to the bullet ? No, they probably won't shoot as good as a custom barrel but its a factory gun / asembled parts . Don't loose faith ! I.e. get some Tubb bore bullets, go to Burger bullets and match a bullet to the twist. Example : Rem. .243 9 1/8 twist shoots better w/ 95 gr ? Slow twist lite bullets , fast twist heaver bullets ? Why bother trying to push a 55 gr through a 9 1/8 twist barrel , makes no sense. Winchester has a much slower twist for .243 ? My question is rifle twist / bullet weight over looked? lightbulb

I agree that the stock would be a good place to look. The sps has a light barrel which will seldom shoot with a heavier barrel like the Sendero, but the senderos also have a much better stock. I have glass bedded some of the cheaper stocks and floated the barrels which often makes a big difference........Rich
