Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223

A friend has one, that he hasn't shot. It has the 16.5" barrel, in 1:9. I believe someone suggested this gun or this style gun to me before, to learn reading the wind, and making adjustments for wind and elevation. That length speed is going to be AR-15 level, and the 1-9 keeps us below 70 grain? Hornady recommends 1:8 for the 75 ELD-M.

Point is, he wants to trade it for a pistol. Would this be a 500-700 yard tops rifle? Are they finicky to load for? Let me know your thoughts please! Thanks!

Can't speak on the .223 in this platform but I've owned two in .308. They were/are extremely accurate. I would replace that hogue stock, but after that it should be a shooter. The .223 shouldn't be finicky to shoot out of this gun. I would at least try and shoot the 75 grainers. It could like them. The heaviest I've shot out of a 1:9 was 69 SMKs. It grouped sub moa for 5 shots.

I'm not too happy about my Representatives right now. Fortunately I live 4 miles from the NC line.

You know, I didn't think how fun that SPS would be in a threaded .308 with a suppressor. I could stick one of these 230 A-Tips in it lol.

This is a 180 Etip, 230 Atip, and a 153 Atip. That 230 would look funky in a .308 lol
