Remington 700 ML

My Rem 700 ML.
Got the hunters bolt nose kit and using a leupold with the CDS dial I can smack a 10"x10" steel plate with regularity.
At 300-500 yds.

I would like to set mine up to shoot deer at that distance, im looking for a good starting point, I plan on doing the 209 conversion, not sure where to start with bullets, there are so many to chose from
Thanks

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but want to share with you my personal experience.

Had my first custom muzzle loader built this year by Todd South of Southern X-Press Custom Rifles in Mesa AZ. It used the Remington 700 action, Arrowhead 45 caliber barrel, muzzle break, Arrowhead 45 caliber NSR 300 grain bullets, Magnum Large Rifle Primers, and Blackhorn 209 powder. Parts were over 2k.
Took it out and shot clover leafs at 100 yards with 111grains BH209 and Federal Magnum Large Rifle Primers. Lab Radar recorded 2424 ft/sec. Dialed Vortex 6-24x50 Viper with rifle out to 621 yards! Todd was making all the measurements and saved the calculations.
Went on my first muzzle loader hunt near Snow Flake AZ. Winds blew at 15 miles an hour and gusted to 40 mph. Bad year for deer. AZ Game and Fish Officer had told me if you see an antlered deer, shoot it. Don't be picky, you won't get a second chance.
Got lucky and ran across a group of four bucks. We were on a ridge. They were 320 yards away in an open valley grazing on sparse grass.
Todd dialed in the scope while I watched through it with my glasses off tracking the biggest buck. I'm 62 and it was my first none hog hunt since 2006 and first big game hunt since 1994. I had only shot a deer in Utah and a javalina in AZ prior to 2006 and all hunts were at less than 150 yards. All of the hog hunts in Texas were less than 100 yards, with the majority at 50 yards or less in mostly oak covering.
I hesitated. Todd encouraged me. I took the shot.
Todd watched it stagger 30 yards in a half circle and drop. I recovered my senses. 320 yard shot on the money.
Hunt of a lifetime. First time I put in for a hunt. First muzzleloader hunt. Fourth day of my ten day hunt. First attempted take over 150 yards.
Yes, a Remington 700 action for ML works well. I could have gone the more expensive Defiance. But I'm very happy. Extremely happy.
I'm a believer and have a 173 mule deer now as proof.

For the right price, buy it! Then convert it to BH209 and large rifle Magnum primers if allowed in your jurisdiction.

I just noticed, this thread was resurrected from 2015. Information is still valid. I wonder where this is going to go now.
For me, that was just the day before yesterday. Time flies very quickly now.

Thats awesome ill look into the magnum rifle conversion, im going to stay with .50 cal for now, its just going to be a meat gun for shooting deer in the cornfield, they seem to hang out around 300-400 yards from the edges

Check with Arrowhead Rifles in Phoenix, Arizona on his bullets and a sizer. No wads and tight fit equates to greater accuracy beyond 200 yards.

Since my posts….
My longest shot was 260 yds on a doe.
I fired and amongst the smoke and recoil the doe disappeared.
That's because she was dead in the grass.
Also killed a small bull elk……at 80 yds, he made it about another 30 before falling.

Any good or bad on these Remington 700 ML ? I see most of the ones I have looked at have percussion cap ignition . Do they make a update so you can use a 209 primmer ?
I was told by a guy at there Shot Show booth if you changed the Remington 700 BP over to 209 you voided the warranty I changed mine over
