Remington 700 Long Range

That makes sense jud96 about the throating. The fluting makes sense too but I have found mixed reviews online about it. And we all know everything we read online is true. I have been kicking this around for a little while and then I see this thread pop up and there is a lot of good info in it and a lot of good reviews. Thanks

I've had mine in a 300 R.U.M for years and it's still my favorite .30 Cal. Magnum Rifle.

Not a 300 WM, but I have a 7RM in the stainless 700 LR. as others have stated, the factory trigger sucks. I installed a Jewel in mine, 20 MOA rail and bedded the stock. Also had to add an adjustable cheek piece as I have relatively high cheek bones. All that said, the gun shoots well. Even during break-in it never shot much over MOA and that was likely me. I think its a fine inexpensive entry level rifle. I'll shoot the barrel out and have the action trued at that time. Tough to beat in this price range.
 
Hopefully the day comes when I finish off the 30/06 pipe on my LR,,, then I'll plan on the pipe after that since these rifle stocks are bullet proof...

Very solid foundation to work off of...

I'm scaling up from 30/06 to a small bore,,, Ha... Some folks say scaling back going down in size,,, but maybe I look at the world globe up side right from the top of South looking down to the North... LOL...

My guess is that a Remmy LR in 25/06 or 270 with the light bullets is a dream to shoot,,, kinda like working with soft butter instead of the frozen stuff... Ha...

Dang I miss my Magnum days,,, but thats what happens when we age gracefully...

Custom barrels that have been properly stress relieved can be fluted, but I wouldn't waste the money or time fluting a factory barrel. As far as throating the barrel, it can be done. The smith will just have to make dang sure he has the factory throat dialed in perfectly in his lathe before he cuts the throat any deeper. The throat can't be cut off center from the existing chamber for obvious reasons.

Fluting the barrels hasn't hurt accuracy on the 4 I had Kampfeld customs do. An extra 6-8oz, depending on flute type doesn't hurt and it looks real cool :)

Regarding throat, my 225 coal in a saami chamber is touching the lands at 3.907. Not sure how much longer you'd want them.

that's long enough for me. Maybe I won't need to do that part then. I just assumed I would need to. That's good to hear though. Thanks
 
I dug my 2 friends out for a cleaning today,,, F/ PRS rig in 308,,, the other is my Remmy 700 Long Range in 30/06,,, both are a dream to shoot since thier frugal on powder and a budget on Lapua brass at $119 Cnd funds for a hundred lot... Ha...

I started with that brass in 2017 and it's still rocking after 10 to 17 reloads since I tap it kool most of the time with the exception of running hot once in a while...

Both of these rifles have large palm swell that is ok for my big mitts,,, folks with smaller gloves might not be keen to this fit,,, that's where the Remmy 700 BDL comes into play with a bit more conformed palm fit for the smaller hands... The semi drop down pistol grip is pleasant to shoot free hand or prone...

I forgot to mention that I switched to the Harrison BR Bypod on the Remmy LR since my F/PRS rig is home to the Remple Bypod,,, I can switch it over at anytime,,, but the frugal set-up for hunting works better for me...

Hopefully I get out to the Fred Bragg range to stretch out the legs on it this winter... 1400 yards,,, but I'll tap it kool in the 6,,, 8,,, and 1000 marks since just enough range for the good times...

They are available in .25-06, don't think I've seen one in .270.
 
The competition I want to shoot in is this.
ALL GUNS will shoot 5 – 2.5" ( 60mm) clays at 330 yds. 5 – 3.5" ( 90mm) clays at 425 yds. and 5 – 4.5" clays at 500 yds. With 20 rounds only NO SIGHTERS, All in one setting, 10 min time limit. Shooters can shoot targets in any order. Auto tie breakers are by yardage. CLASSES – LIMIT .30 CALIBER AND SMALLER

Hate to say, but a 6.5cm (gag) or 308 would do great for ya with those rules. Waiting for the 6br guys to pipe in :)
 
With those yardages there is no need for the magnum stuff. I'd run a 6.5 or 6mm creed. Despite what some say the 6.5 creed is still a dang good little round. If your looking for flatter trajectory and even less recoil go 6mm. I'm into prs and I have a 6mm barrel waiting for me when the 6.5 gets finished up this season. 6mm with a 110 smk at 3100 or a 115 rdf is no joke!

Yeah, but I've been with the .300 Winnie since I started shooting rifles. Shes near and dear to my heart, and her "recoil" is just a love tap ;)

But yeah, the 6mm Creed looks good, but I'm not sure yet.
