Remington 660 6mm load help

I have a long history with 6mm Remington, don't shoot mine much anymore.
Accuracy powder for 85-87grain bullets was always a heavy charge of 4831. Several rifles of friends, family and my own would get the best groups with this powder. When someone in our circle would buy a new or used one that's how we tested it. If it wouldn't shoot the 85 Sierra and IMR 4831 we would trade it off for a different one.

I am still not getting the accuracy that I'd like to see out of this unit.

Have you ever gotten the accuracy from this rifle which you actually wanted? And what accuracy are you looking to achieve?

If yes, what were you using then and what was your set up.

All

Update checked the twist rate and found the barrel to be 1-10.

Just got the rifle and started loading for it I have never received the accuracy that I feel it's capable of.

Not positive but I would think this thing should shoot at minimum 1in MOA please post if I'm expecting too much from this unit.

Thanks

Update checked the twist rate and found the barrel to be 1-10.

This is the list of factory twist rates vs rifle models:

244 Remington - 1 in 10"....Rem 700
244 Remington - 1 in 12"....Rem 722, 760, 740, 725, 40-XB; Sako
6mm Remington - 1 in 9".... .Rem 600, 700, 742, 760, 660; Browning B-78; Ruger
6mm Remington - 1 in 9"... .Rem 700, 4, 6, 7, 7400,7600
6mm Remington - 1 in 10"....Rem 40-XB; Schultz and Larsen; Ruger #1, 77; Browning

Is it possible that the patch or the brush slipped while you were checking the twist rate? If your 1:10" is correct, I suggest cleaning the barrel thoroughly then examine the crown to see if there might be some damage. Other than that, there are methods to check the bedding which might have a problem or one of a dozen other problems. But in the end, remember that 1" groups used to be the normal and your rifle might just be that normal.

Regards.

Appreciate the time and help everyone has offered.

I'm going to regroup this weekend and retest a few things but stick with the same bullet.

I will update

Thanks again

Without seeing what work has been done on it already, checking bedding/floating etc it's impossible to know what 's capable of as is much less with a little accurizing.

660's were not built to be precision rifles, they were built to be 100-300yds "truck guns" and city slicker weekend hunter rigs so there's a whole lot of variation in the line. Sometimes you get lucky and get a real shooter out of box. Sometimes you get one that becomes a 1-2moa gun with work.

Sometimes no matter what you do to one you'll be lucky to get 3 MOA out of it.

Thanks all for the help you've all given.

Shot this today with a 95 Berger VLD and IMR 4895. Didn't get to Chrono but I have a feeling it's close to 3000.

Thanks again
