Remembering the Older Days of Reloading/Shooting

The good ole days to me was when you could find ANY components you needed at your local gun shop…and prices were reasonable. We may never see that again.
I rarely ever bought more than 100 primers at a time because I knew they would be in stock when I needed more. I was just reading 5he attached article comparing gun and ammo prices in 1950, 1950 adjusted for inflation and 2020.

Wow…..we're "Polar Opposites"! I guess I've been a prepper/survivalist/pessimist all of my life. I've always tried to prepare for hard-times. When I was young and "dirt poor" I would buy a hundred or so when I could afford them. As things improved financially, I went to 1000's, and then to 5K cases. Powder was the same, went from 1's to 5's or 8's! Absolutely no regrets! 😉 memtb

That was interesting thank you.

I came around to your way of thinking during the Clinton years.

In 1970 I rode my bike to the corner gas station and bought 22 shorts for 50 cents. they had all kinds of ammo. I also Remember seeing a wooden barrel full of surplus German Mausers at the end of the produce isle at the Minyards Supermarket where we bought our groceries. They were stuck in there like umbrellas and the price was $20ea. I asked my mom if I could have one, she said no, but there was a Mauser under the Christmas tree a couple months later.

Even tho I didn't start reloading until the mid '80s I would have to drive 100 miles for primers, so buying small amounts at a time wasn't in the cards. I only needed 2 primers types, cci350 and cci250 for the 44mag and 264wm. It was almost 10 years later befoore I loaded any thing other than those 2.

Buy all of the primers that you can justify. They won't go bad…..unless you store them in oil to keep them from rusting! 😉 Powder, "half @zz" properly stored will outlive you! Get everything you can justify……while you still can! My grandkids will inherit a lot…..then the government will take it from them! 🤬 memtb

The government can inherit everything I flush as they deserve it! Not just a percentage, but all of it!

To all of you guys I have to say,....we lived the best years.
We were blessed and fortunate,we were free.
When the American dream was real.
A house with a picket fence,was reality.
Now homelessness and shame.
Freedoms are eroded and we just let it happen.
I hope one day things get back to what it was....for our grandkids.❤️
