Rem 700 light primer strikes

Not sure if this is your problem, but a very common failure mode I've seen over the years with the Remington/clone 700 actions that cause "light strikes" and will eventually lead to full failure. It is a fractured retaining pin that attaches the firing pin to the cocking piece(shown below). Externally it may appear OK, but under the stress of firing it will cause light strikes. IMO, excessive dry firing can be a cause of this problem. With the proper bolt sussasemblt tools and a $3 pin, it is easily replaced. Shown, new(#17) vs fractured pin.
