Are you guys sure that the 26 inch VS barrels are 1-12? I thought they were 1-10...
Archery Nut you can shoot your sporter weight barreled rifle out to very long ranges, if you have a proper scope and match grade ammunition. I had a .270 Remington 700 sporter that I shot out to 800 yards with the old 6 power Mark 4 M-3 leupold scope and 135 gr SMK reloads. While I was on the target with the 135 gr SMKs 'regular' 130 gr Remington Corelock reloads (with the same powder and primer) bracketed the target at that range.
I never had steel further than 800 to shoot it at any range longer than 800 yards.
If your rifle is .308 Win try some 175 gr Federal Gold Metal Match ammunition, you may be surprised how well some of theses rifles shoot.
