Reloading tss T and #4 buck loads

People have a hard time wrapping their head around TTS but having been doing this since Remington HD, Hevishot, Federal Heavyweight, Heavyweight 13, 15, and now 18g/cc I can tell you it is a completely different game, if not a different sport. I shoot #10 TSS for chukar and have no problems making long shots. There are 500 pellets per ounce so yes, the pattern is very full and those tine little #10's penetrate and break bones. You don't choke it like steel or lead, usually less choke is better, and can somewhat control the patter by how you slit the wad. Over choking will give inconsistent patterns with holes and fliers.
Here are some stats from Prairewind Decoys site ;

As for comparing 18g/cc tungsten pellets vs lead (11g/cc), a TSS 18g/cc pellet will have about the same penetration energy as a lead pellet 5 sizes smaller! So #9 shot in 18g/cc Tungsten equates to #4 in lead(or about a #2 in steel).
Here's the distance each type pellet will give you 1.25" of ballistics gel penetration, as well as showing the number of pellets per ounce. When you think about the penetration per pellet along with the number of pellets available to penetrate the target, these numbers will illustrate why density makes such a huge difference in a shotshell's performance on fowl.
8 g/cc Steel #2 (123/oz) – 45.7 yds
11 g/cc Nickel Plated lead #5 (174/oz) – 60.4 yds
12 g/cc Hevi-13 #6 (208/oz) – 60.4 yds
15 g/cc Fed HWT #7 (220/oz) – 81 yds
18 g/cc TSS #8 1/2 (300/oz) – 84.5 yds
For example, a 3/8oz load of #9's in a 410 2 1/2" shell gives you 135 pellets.(That is more pellets than many 12ga loads) These pellets carry more energy than Lead #4's at 1510 FPS with 23 grains of powder. This loads yeilds 1.25" of penetration into Ballistic gel at 88 yards!

Believe me, these pellets are "the stuff!" We have been cold cocking big 12 pound Canadas with our 410's at 70+ yards. These guns are light, fast, quiet, and have no recoil.

@Orange Dust may add a ton of experience

Is a light modified choke ok?
Based on my brief experience I would not use more than Improved Cylinder for 3in or Modified for 2-3/4 until I get my head my head wrapped around TSS. I thought I was safe using Improved Modified when I was going to test fire/pattern an off the shelf turkey load and it must have had some serious pressure. Had to manually extract the shell after firing. Be safe. Do your research.

I shoot coyotes out to 100+ yards with the #2 TSS.

The wad I use is the CLBC from Ballistic Products.

The choke tube I use is a Muller UFO.

We shot more than a handful of coyotes last year in excess of 125 yards, and besides the usual flipping and flopping around after being shot, all coyotes were grave yard dead less than 5 seconds after the shot!

To answer your question, email Indian Choke or Calrson Choke. Also, Apex Ammunition sells BB, #2 & #4 ammo for Deer & Predators.

I went ahead and ordered a couple starter kits from super18tungstenshot.com
I reached out to them through facebook as well and they confirmed it will come with tested and verified safe load data. Looking forward to getting it in and building a few to pattern. Was told it will have detailed instructions and a list of necessary components so I can purchase more in the future. Basically includes everything but powder. Enough for 15 complete shot shells.
