I will be backing my son up for a once in a life time brown bear tag for Red Lake on Kodiak. I plan to shoot 270 gr Hammer Hunters but have available a limited supply of med to med/slow powders. My first choice would be H4350 followed by W760 neither of which I have. I have an abundance of H4831 which Ken Waters suggests could be appropriate. I will be shooting a 375 Weatherby in a pre-64 Win M70 with 22" barrel. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for this particular combination of caliber/bullet/powder? Just in case, I have filed off the front sight.

I shoot a 375 Bee, other than those 2 powders you mention, the only other powders I have used are RE15 and RE17.
According to my sources, 96g if H4831sc is max with a 270g bullet. But seeing as though you're using a Hammer, it may be more or less than this, I am not sure TBH.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but H4831 is my least used powder, never have liked it.

Cheers.

My experience with H4831 is quite limited but apparently some have had good results with in some calibers/loads: temp stable, accurate in some calibers and for me at this time available. 96 gr is what I came up with also but unknown is Hammer bullet.

I am using RL 17 in my .375 AI, pretty much a twin to the Weatherby, getting excellent results with the Barnes 250 TTSX.

When/if I ever find some Barnes 270 LRX's......RL 17 will be my first powder to try!

Good Luck, hope you can get it squared away soon! memtb

I'm using RL16 with 300 grain Accubond and getting phenomenal accuracy in my 375 AI, a gun that always gave me trouble prior to this combo. I am getting 2780FPS and have booked an Alaska Penninsula Brown Bear hunt for Fall 2023

I think 4831 is to slow for a 375 Wby, it was in mine. I got best results with 4350.

24 in barrel / 215 primer / 300 Swift A-frame / IMR 4350
82: 2527 / 2528 / 2527ES= 1ave: 2527
82: 2512 / 2528 / 2503ES= 16ave: 2514
82.5: 2536 / 2549 / 2540 ES= 14ave: 2541
83: 2536 / 2561 / 2574ES = 38ave: 2557
