Reloading for the new .277 Fury from Sig

Not to hijack the thread but how about the non reloadable plastic ammo form Truvelocity for $80 US a box….ummm no.
Heard something about this a while back. Don't know much more about it. I think they were trying to get the military interested in this. I see they have barrel swaps out. Anyone out there got any new scoop on this? Maybe another thread?

I like to see what's forthcoming. And "try" to be prepared, although I'm not always successful. But speculation and planning can always change. As the situation dictates. It seems you and I have gotten off to a somewhat awkward start in this forum. It was not intentional. I only wish the folks on this forum well with all the info available so the best decisions can be made. Stay safe and have fun.
As "I" previously noted the best way to prepare the subject matter is to start saving for it now. For instance, "I" set aside (automatic) $75/pay period (x26) for my hunting, fishing, and shooting/reloading expenditures. Some people I know would say "I cannot afford this and that" but they never save up for it. Any incremental savings add up in due time, just like this thread I started nearly 2 years ago >>>https://www.longrangehunting.com/th...the-local-gun-store-empty-handed-rule.255740/
If "I" want to plan for the future to have this new gun and reload for it, the best "I" can do is to start saving for it now.

Yeah, absolutely. I try to always support my LGS. Their support is critical. All too often they have the one item that I dont seem to be able to find anywhere. Saving $$$ is sometimes the only way to get a new item. It sure makes it easier when you want it. Putting a few bucks away from time to time does add up. It sure is great when you count your $ stash and find that your goal has been met. Yahoo! It's too bad that the "can't afford it crowd" don't see their way clear to save. Early Christmas, yes please!

What am I missing? Case is same size as .308 case and a .308 can throw 130 grain bullets at 3000FPS…..why is this round needed?
The case length is same, but shoulder angle and diameter are greater. Not sure if this results in more volume or not due to the way the base is constructed.

In terms of the velocity; they are getting that out of a short 14ish inch carbine barrel , I'm not sure you can do that with a 308. Even if you can, the BC for a comparable bullet is not going to be as good.

Even with all that I share your opinion, I remain to be convinced this is the best way or even a reasonably good way of skinning the cat they are after

Can you throw a 140g bullet down a 16" barrel at over 3000 fps in a 308 brass case?

If so you should have jumped in the contract process and saved the taxpayers a bunch of money...

If you are referring to why the civilian market "needs" it. They don't. I don't "need" toilet paper but I buy it. I could go drop a turd outside and use grass to wipe my butt. Then I wouldn't "need" a toilet or septic system either. 90% or more of what we own we don't need to survive.

Agreed! This is why "I" asked,
What constitutes your notion as an important subject?

Are you not following this conversation? The civilian round is 80k psi.
No I'm really not. Someone mentioned that the .277 sig furry civilian ammo was 65k psi stuff. Gas guns are not my Forte. I personally think that this whole thing is a waste of tax payer money. We just got "finished" fighting a 20yr war with a rifle system developed over 50 years ago. A lot of these issues could have been solved with current bullet technology. I think this whole .277 crud is a solution looking for a problem.

You could be right on the waste of taxpayer money. I just know I would rather be armed with the 277 fury over the 556 or 762 if I was getting shot at but that's just me.

Let me try to explain what is going on here:

A bunch of people read other posts and probably partially read or fully read without understanding some news articles. One of them started this thread and others posted what they heard or thought they read.

Craig Miller then stepped in with the facts which were immediately countered with misinformation from the people in the paragraph above.

There was then a picture of an antelope eating popcorn posted which is usually a good indication that an argument is about to happen, people are speaking without knowing what they are talking about. This was posted at my request and Feenix was kind enough to grant my request.

By then it had been established that the same case and pressures were used in the military and civilian version. There is an all brass case fmj version that is not rated to 80k psi for shooting targets. Although this had been established in the previous 90+- posts some people still did not understand or still refuse to believe it.

I think this covers it.
