What am I missing? Case is same size as .308 case and a .308 can throw 130 grain bullets at 3000FPS…..why is this round needed?
Heard something about this a while back. Don't know much more about it. I think they were trying to get the military interested in this. I see they have barrel swaps out. Anyone out there got any new scoop on this? Maybe another thread? Not to hijack the thread but how about the non reloadable plastic ammo form Truvelocity for $80 US a box….ummm no.
As "I" previously noted the best way to prepare the subject matter is to start saving for it now. For instance, "I" set aside (automatic) $75/pay period (x26) for my hunting, fishing, and shooting/reloading expenditures. Some people I know would say "I cannot afford this and that" but they never save up for it. Any incremental savings add up in due time, just like this thread I started nearly 2 years ago >>>https://www.longrangehunting.com/th...the-local-gun-store-empty-handed-rule.255740/I like to see what's forthcoming. And "try" to be prepared, although I'm not always successful. But speculation and planning can always change. As the situation dictates. It seems you and I have gotten off to a somewhat awkward start in this forum. It was not intentional. I only wish the folks on this forum well with all the info available so the best decisions can be made. Stay safe and have fun.
If "I" want to plan for the future to have this new gun and reload for it, the best "I" can do is to start saving for it now.
Yeah, absolutely. I try to always support my LGS. Their support is critical. All too often they have the one item that I dont seem to be able to find anywhere. Saving $$$ is sometimes the only way to get a new item. It sure makes it easier when you want it. Putting a few bucks away from time to time does add up. It sure is great when you count your $ stash and find that your goal has been met. Yahoo! It's too bad that the "can't afford it crowd" don't see their way clear to save. The case length is same, but shoulder angle and diameter are greater. Not sure if this results in more volume or not due to the way the base is constructed. What am I missing? Case is same size as .308 case and a .308 can throw 130 grain bullets at 3000FPS…..why is this round needed?
Are you not following this conversation? The civilian round is 80k psi.Yes at 80k psi. This whole cartridge idea with the "6.8x51" is kind of lackluster at 60-65k psi in my opinion.
The cases are the same. Not sure why some people are not grasping this. The cases are different.

Can you throw a 140g bullet down a 16" barrel at over 3000 fps in a 308 brass case?
Agreed! This is why "I" asked,If you are referring to why the civilian market "needs" it. They don't. I don't "need" toilet paper but I buy it. I could go drop a turd outside and use grass to wipe my butt. Then I wouldn't "need" a toilet or septic system either. 90% or more of what we own we don't need to survive.
What constitutes your notion as an important subject?
That hasn't been decided on for the military yet…as far as I know they're still testing case types. Weapon, optic, and bullet has been chosen. The cases are different.
Almost like people don't know how to read...That hasn't been decided on for the military yet…as far as I know they're still testing case types. Weapon, optic, and bullet has been chosen.
No I'm really not. Someone mentioned that the .277 sig furry civilian ammo was 65k psi stuff. Gas guns are not my Forte. I personally think that this whole thing is a waste of tax payer money. We just got "finished" fighting a 20yr war with a rifle system developed over 50 years ago. A lot of these issues could have been solved with current bullet technology. I think this whole .277 crud is a solution looking for a problem. Are you not following this conversation? The civilian round is 80k psi.
LOL!!!!I heard if enough people boycott, the price might come down.
