Redding Type S FL Bushing Die

I received the die today. I opened up the box and try to remove the expander ball. Why is it so hard to unscrew? Do Redding put loctite on it? The expander ball on my other dies from other manufacturers can easily be removed but this one is so difficult. Going to try pliers and heat gun next, but was just wondering.

Neither have I, and I own many sets. He may have a cross-threaded stem.

I've had galled threads on redding dies in the past, among other things. I only use them when I have no other alternative

Does a bushing die even have an expander ball? I thought that was the whole idea of bushing dies was to use the correct size bushing so expander balls weren't needed

Got 10 sets of Redding never had that problem

Yes, but it also comes with a non expanding ball/stem or whatever you call them.…that is what is used.

So its not really an expander ball-- it just holds the decapping pin

It comes with an expander ball and also a black decapping pin retainer which you screw on to cover the threads.
