Recommend me a 338

338 Norma seems to please everybody who shoots one. You don't need to go with a super long barrel to get good performance out of it. Also, Lapua has committed to making brass for it which I think is a big deal, as the Norma brass is quite soft.
Only problem is he has a magnum bolt face, not the lapua sized bolt face. Otherwise, completely agree!! I am in the process of putting together a 338 Norma.

Also, Peterson Brass will be making 338 norma brass soon as well, he said around may. They are currently in production of 300 norma mag brass.

whats recommend barrel length for the 338 edge or RUM?
I'm doing a 28" on a 338 Norma. If you want good long range performance, I would do at least 26", if you want a little better but still not bad for packing, 28", if you want the best performance and rifle length and wieght isn't much of a deal and you won't be packing it alot then 30"-32".

My brother picked up an FN Ballista in .338 LM that did sub 2" at 400 yards out of the box on a gusty day with factory ammo.

I'm in a similar position - same action, and had poured over options for a while. Decided to go with the RUM as I found a few boxes of ammo for $30/box and scooped up plenty of brass to last for a while.

I want to run the 250 -285 gr bullets, so the RUM ought to be plenty for that.

Also, I think I'm going to run with a 28" barrel to get a little more velocity. Add a brake and that will be about as long as I'd want a barrel on a hunting rifle.

I put an order in for the 338 sherman shortmag in carbon 26" barrel now the wait. Decide to stay in that 250gr bullet area

Nice! Me too, wait will be worth it. I didn't want to go big case capacity like a lapua, edge or rum.
I figured a elk or bear won't be able to tell the difference between the sherman short mag or an edge and the sherman uses less powder

I'm going to suggest the 338 win/magnum, had mine built 30 plus yrs ago, went with a 26 inch #5 ss/bbl and I've been more then pleased with her. She's more used for target shooting but was built for hunting lol but what does it matter when it works both ways . Jmho!
I have to go with the 338 win mag because I got lucky and got mine free.I had a guy come into the shop with three Remington Classic's.35 Whelen.300 Weatherby and a 338 win mag.Ask him what he wanted for them. All had Leupold ring's and base's and the guns were like new.He said 600.00.I knew a guy collecting the classic's.I did not tell him about the 338.He offered 700.00 for the 35 and 300.I took it and called the owner that I had sold the two. When he came in I asked what he wanted just for the 338.He said done deal so I asked him why he sold them so cheap. His wife had caught him in his bed with the same women within two week's First time she forgave him Second time she told him to get a lawyer.600.00 I told him the 338 was mine It has taken 5 moose so far.All with 210 Partition's,but out to 300 yard's it shoot's the Berger 250's great

A lot of punch in a little package. Mine will mostly be a moose gun, but I'm looking forward to stretching its legs out there.

If your looking for top end performance, about the most performance you can get out of that action/bolt face combination, is a .338 edge or edge improved. You will get 2900-3000+fps with a Berger 300 depending on barrel length, powder, node, ect. So do you want the utmost performance or do you want something easier? If you want a repeater in the .338 edge then I would suggest getting a Wyatts 4" mag box and have it fitted to your action as well. Alot of people are loading these to 4" OAL or more. And especially considering the new Berger 329 that will most likely have an absurd BC, I would want a cartridge that could push the heavier bullets coming out.

Something easier and cheaper would be the 338 win mag, but personally, if I had that custom action I would go .338 Edge or possibly Edge Improved.
Right on the money here! I love my edge, 3010 fps and all the whop a man could ask for at great distances!
