Hello All,
Merry Christmas and hope you had a great thanksgiving! I currently own a savage 110 ultralight chambered in 28 Nosler. I am getting a jump on thoughts about rebarreling this rifle.
I currently run a custom 338 edge +P. I am thinking to stay with a 7mm and light weight as it will be a great complement to my 338.
My intended uses for this rifle will be Hunting , midrange 500 and under and some PRS matches. Elk and mule deer are the animals I chase as I live in Idaho.
I am thinking 7saum. ADG makes brass, mag bolt face. I have a long action so I can seat bullets way out there. Have the throat chambered for the 168 to180 grn Bergers. What do you guys think? I am open to suggestions , and wildcats are welcome! I love shooting a rifle that others don't.

Are you rebarreling for something new? Is the barrel shot out? Are you wanting longer barrel life?

7 saum in a long action is probably a decent compromise for occasional prs, always nice to have something a little easier on the bore.

My barrel is not sho out yet, but it will eventually, prob sooner than later.
Yes I want longer barrel life, also I can find Large rifle primers where I live. So I could save my magnum primers for my 338 and load large rifle primers in my 7saum. I am going to have a 1-8 twist 28 inch carbon six barrel. I am thinking with the right powders I will be able to shoot the 195 Bergers at 2750-2800 with ease. Looking for a mild shooting round to hunt these mountains with.

I hope that I did not come across defensive or contentious. I truly value all of Yal'ls opinion and learn from everyone of you. I am just talking out my thoughts. Thank you all for reply's. Should I be thinking of a different caliber in the 7mm? I believe I might be limited with my magnum bolt face?
Or do I sell the rifle and purchase a donor Tikka? Or purchase a Remington 700 action and build off that. Not sure , so many options ! That's why IM sorting this out now lol.

You could change bolt head and go 284 Win, 280AI or 7mm-08 even. I'm thinking the magnums are gonna kick your butt in PRS.

If you keep it magnum, there is 7SS and 7 Max. I have both. Great cartridges; 7 saum parent case

I am running 70.5 Grains of N570 out of my 27" carbon 6 barrel with 1:8.5 twist in a 7 Rem mag. I am pushing it pretty hard but the 195s are 2950fps. ADG brass is holding up great. I am also running a tikka action so I am restricted in OAL. If cut just a little more freebore and step them out another tiny bit I am sure I could break 3k fps with it.

The case capacity of the 7mm saum and the 7mm ai are so close I would opt for the 7mm AI in a long action. You gain 1 more round and more available brass and still get to claim "old school cool"

Lightweight magnum hunting rifles are not what you want for PRS. Also the Savage action is not desired for PRS. I own Savages so not a hater but typically they are not fast and smooth which is important when you are on the clock shooting PRS. 10-12 rounds in 90 seconds will cook a magnum throat/barrel in short order. Seeing your hits ,misses and trace is important and you will not be able to do that with magnum recoil. So if you are at all serious about PRS then I suggest you look at a different tool for that use.
