What can one expect from a 24" barrel firing 140 grain bullets?I am thinking of re-chambering a Tikka 6.5CM .I will convert the bolt stop to a LA.Thanks ahead,Huntz
I haven't loaded 140s because I shoot monos I have loaded the 121 gr hammer too 3342 fps in my 1-9 twist . In a 1-8 twist you would be better off with the 123 absolute and 109 gr absolute and you could load with even more vel . I'll make a educated guess of at least 200 fps increase with 140 conventional bullets. Use Lapua brass and you can really push it.
Is there more than one type reamer?I see it listed as 6.5X284 Winchester or 6.5X284 Norma.Powder choice makes a huge difference. If you are conservative and use some of the Hodgdon Extreme powders 2800-2900. If you are more adventurous and use some of the Reloader powders 3000-3100.
How your chamber is cut makes a difference as well.
Since there was just recently SAAMI standardization of the 6.5-284 there are tons of different chambers out there. My rifle was chambered by Hart Rifles and their reamer was set up for 140 VLDs and had the bearing surface placed at the neck/shoulder junction instead of jammed down into the case. I don't recall what the freebore was but I'd say is was likely in the .196-.204 range if I were guessing. Is there more than one type reamer?I see it listed as 6.5X284 Winchester or 6.5X284 Norma.
