Can you explain the benefit of 1.5 degree throat?
My .316 chamber 708AI needs turning to get 3 thou clearance. I figure set the 284 WIN custom .319 and dispense with neck turning. (Or whatever 3 thou would be considering the brass case neck thickness)

R17 is one of those pick your poison powders. It has worked great for me in a few cartridges, but then @VinceMule had to rain on my parade and point out how hot it burns! Lol W760 can get what R17 can do and do it cooler.

I don't think the throat angle has any impact due to the fact that after about 100 rnds the original angle produced by the reamer is gone due to throat erosion

Yep.
And I've learned that 7mm cartridges are better with no less than .319 neck clearance.

All your loads should meet 2800fps+ depending on bullet weights w a 22" bbl

IMO If they are NOT: Your burning up a lot of wasted powder when you look at what a 7mm-08 is doing in same bbl length

That was my criteria
It better outperform the 7mm-08, its too much added trouble and cost if not!

For 150gr I compare my SA loads to 150gr 30-06, they are close enough to compete

Or have a long jump @ 2.800"

You may have to run 140gr-160gr for 2.990" I don't know, don't have one or any real experience with that.

I agree, the 284/280/280AI are sweet spots for powder usage/velocity/recoil versus the magnums, especially in light rifles.
I also have a savage 110UL in 7PRC 22" and its recoil is signifactly more than a similar weight 284. Makes it much harder to spot impacts which is valuable to ne.

I get the same (2875fps +-) in a 20", 1-9" twist barrel, topped with Hornady 150gr ELD-X with 56.5 gr of H4831. Shooting from a long action if that matters.

Methinks a Speer 130 FB is going to load up @ short COAL

Curious how you make out with the Sierra 140 HPBT too!!
I saw that on their site. If its what I'm thinking of, it had the ~crimped? Tip~ that "resists getting tweaked in the field" (my words)

I wanted to try them but aint worth the hassle right now. I seen feeding problems when the bullet tip diameter increases past a certain threshold so I'll probably wait to try those out when I get some expendable cash and patience built up

Yes, obviously I will have to run a shorter COAL with the shorter bullets. The 140 grain HPBT are gamekings. I loaded them for a buddy in his 280 running 2925 and they are quite impressive on deer. He took an Elk with the same same load. We had never seen any feeding problems with the bullet though.
