I had a 7 mag pushing 180 grain Berger HVLD's at 2997 fps. Furthest elk with it was a broadside 1098 yards. Bullet mushroomed nicely and the bull went down within 50 yards. I was using H4831sc and a 28" barrel. Could probably come very close to that with a different powder from a 26" barrel. Point is it was plenty sufficient at that range with that load on elk. Took marmots at between 900 and 1402 yards with that rifle in numerous occasions.
