I previous owned a Taurus PT1911 .45 and had to part with it. At the time, I swore I would get another 1911 model .45, and that has now become reality. I scored the Armscor 51567 (and a 52009 in 10mm, but that will be in a later review), and wanted to share my thoughts and experiences in a pragmatic way.
The pistol comes in a plastic box that does its job, but not more, and inside you will find it packed in a plastic bag with a ton of oil on it (something I happen to like). After cleaning it up, my observations are that it is made like an M1 Abrams, and has a perfect weight ratio to eliminate recoil while maintaining the ability to carry it around.
I do not own a chronograph (yet), so those details are as of yet unavailable. I loaded up 5 rounds of PMC 230gr ball, and let them loose from 25 feet. The first shot landed low and left, but inside the outer target ring. The second and third rounds landed just left and right of the bullseye inside the center ring. The remaining two rounds hit slightly high and left about two inches from the bull. Needless to say, I was extremely happy at the initial results from what many consider to be a "low end" pistol.
I tested the high capacity mag next by filling it with 13 rounds. I found no issues running the mag filled to capacity. As a side note, many may wonder how the weapon feels when holding it since a double stack .45 is obviously wider than a typical 1911. I can honestly report that in my hands, which are medium sized, the pistol actually feels better to me than a single stack 1911. I am convinced that Rock Island has enchanted it with some kind of magick to make the bearer become one with it when holding it. I will go a step further and state that this pistol feels better in my hands than any other pistol I have ever held (better than any wheel gun too).
After all fifty rounds on the PMC ammo, I experienced zero failures of any type, and every round hit within the target (and it's not broke in yet).
Once I get the 52009 out and tested, I will report on it.
Thanks,
Pig
