Question for those that take large game at 300 to 600 yrds

I don't really go over x18 for really anything under 1200y unless it's really small. Like a can or something, or it's a small shooting lane on a positively ID'd target.

So around 8-12x. The reason is field of view, target tracking, and it's easier to follow the shot with bigger cartridges like light rifle built magnums.

Thank you everyone l appreciate the help
I like others keep my power at lowest level 4 (4X12) until I the prey is in site. Have to get back to you on the 300-600yds shots since all my elk have been taken under 210yds and 75% of them under 100yds and I've had no opportunities beyond the 210yds . I believe on the 210 shot I turned my power up to 8. Similar regarding deer most shots under 150yds. My grandfathers rifle had a fixed 4 power scope and he took a 5 point bull at ~500yds with me spotting his misses with a pair of 8 power binoculars. My eyes were a lot better back then :)

I carry all my rifles at the minimum scope magnification. Only if we have time to really set up a shot do they come off that. For most of them that's 3-4.5x.

The high magnification scopes are so wildly unnecessary for hunting. They're heavy, have tighter eyeboxes, make it hard to impossible to spot shots, reduce optical clarity and light transmission.

Usually in the 3-10× range for shots on game at 300-600. I want more FOV. I have made several longer shots well below max mag (out to 921 on 7x). I am rarely on max when hunting except for prairie dogs.

Most of my scopes are somewhere in the 3-15/3-20 range for magnification.

I always like 24-25 power scopes. I feel like I can get the shot at a spot on the animals, rather than just shooting at the animal.
I do know a fellow, he is an awesome shot and been doing this a lot longer than I, he used to prefer 14 power scopes out to 1000 yards. He is in his 70's now and and said he likes his 25 power scopes better now with his aging eyes.

What magnification to you find your self using to take game at these distances?
Still using my German-made Zeiss 3-9x36mm on my 340 Wby. Great clarity and more than sufficient magnification for large animals like muleys, elk, caribou, etc out to 600 yards. A true "hunting" scope!
