Guys when Remington first came out with the 260, what twist did they use?
Reason I ask is a friend has one of the early ones and he says it doesn't seem to like the heavier bullets. It tends to be finicky with them. He did say it is fair with Fed. Premium 140s, the Sierra Gamekings but he's having trouble finding those these days. I told him it could be a twist rate issue but I don't know what twist rate they used. I haven't seen the rifle. My advice was to give the 129/130 class bullets a try.

I believe that 1-9" became the "standard" twist for the Rem .260. When I wanted one two years ago, I decided to go right to a custom barrel for my M700 in .243 Winchester. After researching the bullets I wanted to use for Whitetail deer, I chose 1-8" twist to give me the widest bullet choices for my planned hunting. It has worked out very well. I'd recommend 1-8" unless super long bullets are on the menu. -Ed

I have a 700 VLS 1-9" off model made for 1 year in 1995. It Won a 400 yard cold bore deer target shoot locally with very limited load development & 140 gr hpbt bullets. I do not recall any troubles. In fact I found that most loads all shot small clusters no matter the weight, type of bullet or powder charge.

I have shot the 260 for highpower competition and many years ago I tryed a 9 twist barrel instead of the 8 twist we always used and that barrel shot well with 140's or 142's up to 500 yds but at 600 yds accuracy feel apart badly so if you want to shoot longer ranges its best to check your load at the range you want to shoot

Wife had a Model 7 that would not shoot 140 gr. copper-lead bullets very good like 3" at 100 yards ....went to Cutting Edge Bullets 100 gr. Raptors and the gun was very close to a one hole at 100 yards.....wish Nosler still made there 100 gr. Ballistic -Tips they shoot very good made a good target bullet only....
