Hey all,

Ive grabbed a tikka t3x varmint in 300m on the cheap/BF deals and was planning to do a slow build towards a semi custom in 7mm prc. The one question i have is this: will a proof reaearch prefit barrel fit in the varmint stock?

Iv been looking on the net for a few days for any info about the varmint barrel diameter at the tenon for the tikka but have had no luck.

The proof sendero is roughly 1.2" (from what i can remember), so will it fit in the standard varmint stock? Anyone else done this? Its gonna be a while before i upgrade the stock so i was kind of hoping to get away with what ive got.

So after more searching i have found one site that states its 1.25" at the action...so looks like my plan is still going ahead!

1) You need to know the taper specs of the inlet in your stock and you need the contour spec of your factory barrel and be sure the proof is not bigger as it tapers through the forearm of your stock.
2) you need to get the specs of the contour on the proof barrel.
3) compare the 2.

I highly doubt a Proof Sendero Prefit will fit into a factory Tikka Varmint stock. Just because it's "1.25 at the action" doesn't mean it will fit the entire length of the stock and I highly doubt it will! Barrels have a taper contour profile to them and stocks have specific inlets to handle barrel profiles. Without that exact info your guessing!

Here's the "Basic" taper spec. Not promising to "drop in" unless you want to remove some significant material from the forearm.

Profile- starting at 1.25" at the action with a slow taper to 0.8755" at the muzzle.

Sandpaper and a good size broom handle or closet rod needed Fosho.

The Tikka barrel will be 1.13" at the breech, unless the varmint action is slightly larger than the standard T3x. I bought their "regular" barrel blank in a 30-caliber (1.20 at the shank) and didn't realize this difference. The gunsmith tapered it slightly at the breech end and it turned out great. But for the Tikka prefit, it'll be a 1.13. You can also order a blank in that diameter too but you don't have as many options.

I would replace the stock & call it a day. You have lots of options to get a nice stock for the tikka. Everyone has different taste but I've yet to handle a tikka & think dang that's a nice stock. Peak 44 makes some nice stuff & occasionally has something in the ready to ship section.

Stockey's also has, a Carbon Fiber Model for, a Heavy Barreled Tikka for, $300- $350ish
My son, had to Remove some material from, the Forend channel to, make his Proof Sendero, Barrel fit ( But plenty of, "Room" and Looks good ! )
I can't remember, the Stock Model,.. Sorry
