I have been doing some research on reduced loads for the 7mm-08 for my grandson's Savage Axis youth deer rifle. I will be loading a 120 grain bullet, and the data I have found starts at 35.2 grains of H4895. I went to Cabelas, and all they have is IMR4895.
Do you think there is much difference in the Hodgdon and the IMR?

Going to Hodgdon's website and look at the loads listed they have this for I4895:
Start: 41.5gr and max load of 44.0gr. (to result in roughly 3,022fps). If it was me doing the load work, I'd start at 42 gr. and work up from there.

Thanks everyone for the info. I did buy a box of Hornady Custom Lite ammo at Cabelas. It is loaded with the 120 grain SST. I think I will see how those shoot before I buy the components to load some reduced power loads for his rifle.
