Powder choice?

The H4831's are generally identical-but some lot to lot variance exists. Never hurts to back off for a round or 2.

The IMR and Hodgdon are not interchangeable.

H4831/H4831SC are the same powders and have identical burn rates, but H4831SC is cut shorter in kernel length to allow for better flow/metering. The shorter kernels in "SC" will allow for slightly more powder volume than H4831. That being said, I would still do load work up if switching from one to the other. IMR4831 is a slightly faster powder in burn rate and load data is NOT the same as H4831/H4831SC.

Is there any difference between H4831 regular and the Short Cut version? Would I need to adjust my load one way or the other?
And is I4831 close enough to use H4831 load data? I have both, just wondered what the difference was?

yes , H4831 , and H4831sc will interchange . the only difference is the length of the powder . the short cut will allow the same amount of powder , but will lower the case fill % . IMR 4831 is a different powder and should not be substituted .

Is there any difference between H4831 regular and the Short Cut version? Would I need to adjust my load one way or the other? Other than size no, but yes you will need to adjust, every time there is a change in any of your load (primer, brass, lot#, etc).

Thank you all for the feedback. I've got a couple of different loads worked up, now I just need the weather to cooperate long enough to go try them!

Sounds like more snow coming in the next couple of days, so in the mean time I may as well put together some more loads for the 270 Short Mag.
I'm going to try working uploads with 150 gr Hornady SST and 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip for elk.
Any suggestions for those?
I have some Mag Pro that I was going to try, along with maybe some Retumbo?
Thoughts?
