Posting pictures

I'm sure this question has been addressed but in trying to upload pictures, it says the file is an invalid type.
These are pictures from my Samsung phone.
Is there anything I can do to make the files more acceptable?

I did read the thread in Guide lines as to how to upload pictures.
Pretty straight forward. When I try, it tells me the file us an invalid type. These are pictures from a Samsung phone.
Am I doing something wrong?
