Peterson “Select” Brass Is Weight-Sorted and Length-Sorted

Well those time-consuming tasks may be a thing of the past for Peterson brass buyers. Peterson is now offering Peterson Select Brass in nine popular cartridge type. According to Peterson:

"Peterson Select casings are weight sorted at the factory. All casings in a 50-count box are guaranteed to be within one grain of each other. They are also sorted by overall length (OAL) and guaranteed to be consistent to within .001 inch."

Its good stuff too... I havent had my hands on any select but I think the regular Paterson is every bit as good as Lapua.

Within the context of my competing, I really don't need to pay anyone to sort brass for me but I thought it might interest others who have been complaining about some other makers and their inconsistencies. Anyway, it's always nice to have the information tucked away just in case.

The only thing better would be that they all weight the same Batch to batch. That has been the problem with most weight sorted cases, when you buy the next batch, they were normally different than other batches.

It would be nice if they offered 100 and 200 round batches that matched. But it is good that someone else has upped the quality.
I will have to try some.

That's what my concern is. Just wondering how you can get enough of the same weight/length. It didn't mention any lot # or code to ensure similarity. It's a nice idea though, should help keep the odd cases (way light or way heavy vs the mean) out of the sort. That said, 50 rds of Peterson's brass goes a long way.

Nobody's ever happy with just a simple improvement...

I suggest calling Peterson yourself to ask about the possibility of larger quantities. They may offer it to just the folks needing it by request and not to the general public or the hoarders.

Hopefully a trend other manufacturers will follow, although like you, I sort my own, and I have plenty, but unlike you, not for competition... (Unless you count competing with myself)

I haven't used Peterson brass and I don't shoot nearly as much as most guys on here. I keep hearing about Peterson brass and was wondering how it compares to Lapua.

I'll also add that I'd put the Peterson brass I've used 6mm and 6.5mm Creedmoor on par with Lapua (consistent weight, length, and excellent durability).

And it costs less.

And you can get it in options Lapua doesn't offer.

And it comes in Really nice ammo boxes.

And its a local American business.

I live about 8 miles from their office & have stopped in and purchased 338 Lapua brass. They are very good people to talk to and their brass is top quality. I have never had brass that has held up so well to full pressure loads.
