The order is made! My first custom barrel. :) Thanks again for your help! :D

I did specify the SAAMI version of 280ai for use with Nosler brass.

Now I just need to find a box to send them my barreled action

The rest of the rifle has a Bell & Carlson stock, Timney trigger. VX3 3.5x10 40mm CDS (just keeping the MOA dial). 270 win barrel is coming off.

I have 250 pcs of Nosler brass, 400 168 grn Berger VLD Hunting, 100 Barns 168 grn LRX, and 100 Nos 150 grn ABLR. For powders to test, H4831sc, IMR7828ssc, RL22, RL26. I have Redding competition seating die, and a Redding full length sizer.

It's going to take a couple months at least, but I'm super excited! Hoping to have it all dialed in for the 2016 Oregon elk season.

Straight SAAMI spec will give you the most versatility and loading options. They won't need a dummy round for a standard SAAMI. You don't need a fancy chamber to build an excellent shooting rifle

I disagree, completely. If I had a particular bullet in mind I wanted to use I'd definitely send a dummy round and have it throated to it. SAAMI specs are rarely optimal for VLD style bullets since they're not loaded in factory ammo. The last rifle I had built I went so far as to have my own reamer made so I could get the neck dimensions and throating I wanted. The ability to have a chamber custom throated for your bullet is one of the biggest advantages of a custom barrel.

I would make a dummy round with my chosen bullet seated to where the junction of the boattail is even with the neck/shoulder junction of the case and tell them to have it touch the lands at that length. It's not a problem for them to do it, they do it all the time. They have throating reamers to do it with.

Wow: Good on ya.

That component list is my favorite. Well, for the actions I use Mark Vs but not important, your R700 will be stupendous in it's role.

If you can pull the barrel off before shipping it will save some hassle. A local shop probably has a box. I have received many rifles (at the FFL) in inexpensive hard cases.

IMO the SAAMI chamber is great. If I read it correctly .190 free bore.

Pictures please.

It's done!!! I got the shipment notification, should arrive Thursday!!!

It was about a 6 week turn-around time, from when I placed the order… about 1.5 weeks after that I sent them my barreled action.

Pac-Nor order ***got it***

It turned out AWESOME!

I sized up the #3 barrel to my B&C stock, and it's quite a bit more substantial then the factory 270win barrel. I have quite a bit of sanding to do.

…first world problems :D I'm supper excited.
