My opinion, for what its worth is that they would prefer insects like grasshoppers and crickets over acorns.
I also think they would prefer the smaller acorns if there is a choice.
Here in Florida we also have a very large turkey population.
I can take a ride and find turkeys pretty much every time i go on the large cattle ranches in the area. And they are eating insects even when the very small live oak acorns are on the ground.
