Custom yardage (BDC) elevation turrets can be a simple and effective way to handle compensating for bullet drop at medium to long distances but there are some critical steps that often get overlooked before ordering the turret.

These days there are many extremely accurate ballistic programs out there but the programs are only as accurate as the data that is entered. There are enough potential errors built into all the different pieces of data that a ballistic solution cannot be trusted to be 100% accurate without first validating, and if necessary, "truing" it.

In a nutshell, validating means shooting targets at multiple distances and comparing the elevation adjustment needed at the different distances to what the ballistic programs says. It is not unusual for the two to not match exactly. In that case you need to "true" the ballistics so that the ballistic program matches the real world. Once this is done then you are ready to place your custom turret order.

Huskemaw Optics has been providing BDC turrets with their rifle scopes for many years and they produced this excellent video explaining the data needed and how to true it before ordering a BDC turret.

If you have any questions about Huskemaw Scopes, ordering a custom turret or anything else related to long range rifle scopes give us a call at The Long Range Hunting Store (920) 376-2010. We're happy to help!

We sell many brands of long range scopes that are capable of adding a custom BDC turret.
