Options to rebarrel 30-06

I had something similar and turned it into a long action 308 Win. It is a joy to load long bullets out there and not have to single feed. Of course chasing the lands is not practical, but I have always gotten best accuracy with a good jump. But, that's just me.

270AI/1:8 twist barrel/170gr EOL or other heavy is something I have been considering lately for a LA. Don't see it mentioned much but has a lot of potential. The last 06 I had has become a 25 CM. A great shooting rifle with the 131 blackjacks and an ULTRA-7.

6.5-06 can run a 140 over 3000fps. I'm pushing a 140jlk to 3047 with 56gr re26. Brass is still cool to the touch, not running it hard. 5.0mil @ 900yds from a 100yd zero

farmboy has a great idea and do not use an improved 6.5/06 the standard is just fine and will out shoot the famous 270 winchester for long range and = the 7mm mag. also all with a very mild recoil. I been shooting my 6.5 for45 years and I love it.. you for sure want a 24+ bbl.. also since you reload the 338/06 IMP ackley is a no brainer.. you improve the regular velocity about 4% which is almost equal to the 338 mag with a whole lot and i mean alot less recoil. I have a 250 yard range set up on my ranch and the 7mm mag would get there real good- so i thought the 338 AI would drop with the 215 serria game king about 6 " well I was bad wrong it shot the same as the 7mm mag.. go figure ther is a mistic notion about the 338 bullets even the military likes them in their sniper rifles.

Yep, I'm running the standard 6.5-06... I run 30-06 norma brass through the die and trim to length. And my first firing of formed brass is just as accurate as previously fired using the exact same load. When I run the numbers, it still has 1056 ft/lbs of energy and 1843 fps @ 1000yds. It sounds like a sledge hammer on steel @ 900yds. Doesnt hit transonic until 1650yds

If you are considering the 6.5 caliber I would think about the 6.5-280 ackley simple neck down on the 280 ackley brass and you can use 280 ackley bushing dies I run a .292 bushing and changed the seating stem in the seater die if going 7mm then the 280 ackley is a no brainer the nice thing is that peterson is now making the 280 ackley brass

Ballistically with the STD BF LA, you're going to be hard pressed to outperform a 25-06 or 25-06 AI with 1:7.5" twist blank and the 131 ACE. The 110 ELD shoot good too and Berger will be releasing a high performance 257 soon.

Top shelf ballistics, hit probability, and low recoil. Pretty easy.

25-06 1:7.5" - 3170 - 3215 fps with 131 ACE (0.340 G7)
25-06 AI should give 70 fps, perhaps a little more.
