Opinoin of Vortex Optics

Same here. Got rid of my last AMG few months back and only thing I got left is one gen 2 rzr 4.5-27 and it has been great, guess I got a good one. Never will mess with them again there are simply to many other options for that kinda coin.
Have you had issues with AMGs? On places like the hide gen 2 razors seem to come highly recommended as absolute tanks and extremely reliable

Yeah I don't mind the gen 2 rzr it's just a dern brick but I would agree with that absolute tank statement. One amg I had was ok and didn't have any issues. The second one went back twice, first time with tracking issue and second illum quit. I feel the glass is descent enough but for that price there are things like swaro x5 etc that are imho just better scopes, but again just my opinion.

They are dependable with decent glass depending what line you buy. I would not consider anything less than a Viper. For the money they are good quality. Great warranty. Nice thing is you can find them on sale.
So depending how much you have to spend, will determine whether you can have a $600 Viper or a Leupold VX5HD or a Zeiss or ???.
For the money they are a good value but not the best you can buy which can be 5X more.
You can always buy one now and upgrade later.

THIS is the best answer on the thread.
The Razor line of binoculars are fantastic, but the Viper is as low as you want to go.

View attachment 137599 I've had a few vortex items. Bino's and a cheaper scope or two. Never had a problem.

Recently got a 6-24x50 Diamondback FFP Tactical and put it on my 6.5 Grendel AR. I worked it through the paces out to 600 yards. It tracked well and the glass was good for the money for sure. ($400 retail) Shot it 6 days in a row. Reliable performance so far.

I was surprised to get a decent FFP scope for $400 btw. I had moderate expectations and this scope surpassed my expectations by far.

I have personally seen 3 of their "Lower Mid-level" scopes from the Diamondback product line and 2 from their budget Crossfire line fail miserably. The three Diamondbacks and one Crossfire could not stand up to the recoil from a 300 WSM. The second Crossfire failed on a .30-06. I switched back to Leupold.

They also seem to be extremely sensitive to ring screw torque, failing at the slightest bit of ft/lbs over 17.

I have not sampled their higher level scopes but I have a friend, long range shooter and attendee of one of Len's classes, swear by the Viper and Razor lines.

Their binos blow Leupold's low to mid range stuff away in my opinion but I won't use their scopes anymore.

Pleasantly surprised by the responses. I was bracing for all the Vortex supporters to come out of the woodworks and comment how a Viper PST gen II and S&B PMII are basically the same quality wise (I've actually seen this comparison seriously made).

I think Vortex, for their price points, usually have a competitor's scope in the same price point that is better feature wise. Where Vortex outshines their competition is the warranty you get. My brother had his rifle slide down a rock face and fall about 80 to 90 feet. His rifle and Vortex Viper scope were damaged beyond repair. Vortex had him send the scope in and they replaced it.

Vortex isn't a bad scope company but they have some fans that really over hype their scopes. If you know what you are getting and can objectively look past all the supporters I don't think you would be disappointed with a Vortex. Just don't expect $2k+ quality in a $700 scope as some would have you believe. Realistically that $700 vortex scope is probably a $500 - $600 quality scope BUT with the best warranty in the business thus far where you can sleep at night knowing if you break it for pretty much any reason you will get a replacement. For some that reassurance is worth it.

Good points, but, I would rather have a scope I did not have to send in for repair/replace. All of mine were simple recoil failures, none were dropped, etc. You should be able to reasonably expect any decent rifle scope to be able to handle the mid-level magnums and 30-06 recoil.

I bought a PST FFP and was very disappointed with the actually optic quality. I normally use Trijicon Accupoint scopes. I traded it after the lone season it was on a rifle for another Accupoint. Lesson learned. If it ain't broke....

I have a Razor II HD 4.5-27. Love it. It has always been dead on. However, I have never dropped it or smacked it hard. I also like the weight. It is heavier than some of its competitors, and helps hold down my big gun. It doubles as a club. I'm not worried about the weight because I have a larger frame and used to hauling weight. I cannot speak on their less expensive optics. I used to work for Tasco years ago. Everyone makes cheap, middle, and high-end optics. I have Tasco stuff made in Japan. 20 years later, those optics are still dead on.
I have had a tactical rifle with a SWFA Super Sniper roll off the hood of a truck and hit the ground. Not a scratch on that scope, and still doing 1/2" moa. Tough little scope.

I have a Diamondback HP 4-16X42 and really like it. Not a high end scope but its worlds better than the Bushnell Banner (bottom tier scope I know) I had on my 270. I know quite a few people running them and I've never heard a complaint. There are better scopes out there but I wouldn't be scared of buying anything from Vortex personally.

I try not to be a "supporter" on any product.I have currently 4 Vipers of various configurations and a Diamondback Tactical on my coyote AR, plus a set of Binos. One scope needed repair and the binos needed fixing after being abused by me. This is over a 20 year period of fairly hard use. I will probably try something else for my next rifle just to see how the vipers compare to the high dollar glass. Then I will decide for myself.
