Omnivores....opportunist....
Shows the older bear was extremely smart in operandi.....pushed the youngster towards the water...
Little bear had two choices....
1....Running for life along brush shoreline...which might have been better decision..
2....Swimming for it....should have swum faster.....much faster....

Natural selection.....

Couple that with a collared bear following Montana hunters from the parking spot, staying a couple of hundred yards behind, with them never being aware its presence. Makes strolls through the woods more interesting.

It eventually broke off, and swam a small lake to an elk carcass.

Persistent, opportunistic, and once it had that smaller bear it was over.

An awesome predator anyway you look at them.
