NRL hunter and PRS chassis input

I currently run a Curtis valor in a KRG whiskey 3 and heavy Palma 26" for my competition and hunting set up. I'm looking to lighten the load since it currently weighs just south of 16lbs. Lugging around a 16lb rifle elk hunting hasn't been horrible since I use a Kifaru scabbard but I'd like to get it south of 12lb so I can qualify for NRL hunter lite division. However, and this is important, I'd like to be able to add weight to the chassis so I can have a 18+lb rifle for prs. If I rebarrel to a #4 sporter and get a light weight chassis I should be able to make weight. Seems like the XLR element magnesium would be the ticket since I can as a different butt stock and internal weights to it but I'm looking for other options if they exist. Thanks in advance.

The XLR Element MG and the MDT HNT26 seem to be some of the most common chassis within the NRL hunter. I know Ultradyne makes a chassis that is similar to XLR's, but I believe that the XLR is still a little lighter. What caliber are you planning on running?

6.5 Creedmoor for PRS and 6.5 PRC for NRL hunter/hunting. I could always get two chassis but I'd prefer to just get one. Depending on the price to weigh the chassis down with accessories it might be better to just get two though.

I've not shot the KRG whiskey 3 so I would not be able to compare it to the XLR Element magnesium chassis I had. For modularity purposes I really liked the XLR and the adjustable cheekpiece on the lightweight butt stock is nice as well. However, I would get a tuning fork feel/sound from the lightweight butt stock when shooting my 7mm PRC. It's not a big issue and may not even be a concern with you planning on shooting a 6.5 PRC. The butt stock tube is hollow so I'm sure some high density foam would help mitigate the tuning fork feel/sound as well.

I like the Whiskey 3 but I'd like something with an integrate arca rail and an adjustable mag catch. I'm also ready to try something new since I've had this one for so long

Look at the MPA Ultralite - it is more of a hunting chassis but you can see its PRS roots. You can add weights to it. I know one PRS shooter that uses the MPA Ultralite for PRS and he adds the weights inside plus the MLOK weights. It has full length ARCA.

Have you thought of two barrels - one heavy and long for PRS and a much lighter barrel for NRL Hunter and hunting?

I reached out to MPA but they said their ultra chassis isn't meant to hold weight. Is that guy on Long Range Hunting or Snipershide? I'd like to pick his brain…

Yes, I'd have two barrels. One a heavy Palma for PRS and the other a #4 for NRL hunter.

No, random guy I saw at a southeastern PRS event. It was notable he was using an Ultralight vs a "competition" chassis.

XLR 4.0 here. I also have MDT LSSXL I modified to reduce weight. Both run folders for hunting. For what you describe I think a chassis like these with weight add for comp season make a lot of sense vs having multiple rifles and expenses. In the end if you can afford a separate comp rifle I'd do it. What I prefer to shoot comp with is much different than what I prefer to hunt with. The rifle pictured below is 9lbs and after packing 12-14 rifles around for years, I would not change a thing.

After looking around, I'm thinking of doing a Grayboe trekker since total it would be about $550 so that might just be my ticket. I feel like I'd just be sacrificing on both ends if I just got one chassis
