BTW, I just looked at your post, it was dated 7-19, if you look at the post Eric did (with the pic of the brake completed) it was on 7-15. Which means I couldnt have seen your design before I had talked to Eric about making it....

Alot of these brakes now a days look like the ones J.D.Jones was using years ago so who is copying who? That`s a nice brake you have there along with Cowboy`s brakes. Quit arguing and keep the gun porn comming.

Novaman, don't get me wrong the fact that Eric made a one off brake for your rifle is not the point. I'm sure it's not the first or last time someones made a few changes to a design and called it there own. What I do take exception to is the posting of the product on the site that I am a sponsor of. I have a dealer pricing program that makes it a waste of time to try and run a one off, or 5 off, or 10 off copys of this brake. Quality goes into this product so that it will last, They are machined on a cnc lathe before cnc milling operation so everything is perfect. They are also hardened to 28-30 rockwell so they will last as long as the life of the barrel. I'm sure Darrel Holland was not to giddy with some one knocking off his brake and selling it for $40 even though the quality was no where near Hollands brake.

But this is life all one can do is stand up for their product. Eric is a smart man. We have corisponded previously in the last 18 months. When he takes hold of an inovative item and brings it into production I'm sure he would feel a bit offended and in turn defend the nature of his product, as will I.

It took me about 3 minutes to rebute your originality claim.

Should I brake it?

Working on swapping barrels on my 700 from a 243 to a 260. The gun will be used for both bench (fun at the range) and deer/pig hunting (so I will be huffing it around). Ordering up a 24" #5 contour (.700 @ the muzzle) SS fluted barrel. My smith recomended that I throw a brake on it, not for kick issues, but he said with that cartridge I will be able to watch the vapor trail and the bullet impact. The downside is they are louder. I was wondering what your guys opinions were on this? I have heard that the VAIS brakes arent as hard on the shooters ears as some others...

So should I go with a brake or not?

If I do go with a brake should I get a VAIS, Centershot Rifles Muscle Brake or a Kirby Allen Pain Killer?

Just went to my dads place, used his lathe and turned some pillars for it. Gonna try and bed it this weekend, we will see though. I couldnt wait, took it out to the local 100yrd range to do some load testing, started with 40.5 grains of H4350, and worked up to 41.5 in .5 grain increments. The more powder the better the groups got. At 41.5 there was still nor pressure signs, so gonna load up some more, but wanna pillar bed first... With no bedding I was getting about .5 MOA 5 shot group out of it with the 41.5gr H4350 and the 140 VLD; its ognna be a shooter, and I know those groups will definately shrink. Also want to try some RL17.

In escrow with a house right now so thats got me busy... Thinking about doing something stupid like headin down to the Featherlite dealer and buy a new 20ft gooseneck stock trailer... Might have to haul a bull 800 miles this weekend as well...

I am dying to get this thing bedded and a load worked up though... I wish I had more time....

Sounds like you are coming along with the rifle glad to see it is performing good for you

Well sorry for all the delays in getting this info up. I have been beyond crazy with life rt now. Not to mention deer season has started. Anyways.

Been playing with H4350 and RL17, and I think I found a winner. Let me start off by saying Eric can build a tack driver. Through all my load development I dont think I have had a group over 3/4 MOA, but I think I finally found my honey load... 44.0 grains of RL17, under the Berger 140VLD, sitting .005 off the lands. A pic of the group is attached, fired the first 2, which were touching, clicked over 1/2 MOA to the right more on the scope and then fired another 3. First shot was the high one all the way left, which was a fouling and cold boar shot, the next was directly under it. Let cool for about 2 minutes before I fired the last 3, which were all shot within about a 1 minute period.

Hopefully I can get a chance to get out and at least try for a buck, only had one trip up which was a bust, but have a huge work project due soon, and theres only 2 more weeks of dear season.
