We shoot tiny groups, 129, 175, and 30 cal 168s, all seated real close if not barely touching the lands.
Update on my 1963 7mm Rem mag. It was still shooting okay but my GS and I borescoped it. No rifling for the 1st 12 inches, looked like a darn shotgun bore. Went ahead ans screwed in my other barrel and throated it so I could shoot 175gr partitions with base seated to the bottom of the neck. I may regret throating it so long, well just have to see. My old barrel will be sent to JES in Cottage Grove. Oregon and revored to 338 or 35 cal. No use wasting a barrel. My 7mm Rem mag was new in 1963. Original stainless barrel and now has over 5000 down the tube. I do have some throat erosion but I just seat a bit farther out. Still shoots bughole groups but I've never let the barrel hit up while shooting. I hav another identical barrel off my late fathers 700 to replace it with. It's stainless and was made at the same time or before mine. It's a shooter too but only has about 300 rounds through it.
