Norma brass, anyne ever loaded it?

Dave, Richard Franklin is the one who came up with this combination of Cartridge, Bullet and Barrel twist to make this thing work. The 1-15 twist 30" Bartlien barrel is producing 4000fps velocity and excellent accuracy.

As I mentioned, I have talked to many guys who have a 300 Varminter and they are saying they are getting 4000+fps and accuracy in the .1's and .2's. The 300 Varminter is an awesome rifle for it's intended purpose.

The bullets you mentioned, allthough good, will not provide the same splat factor the 110 V-Max and 125grn BT will. The 1-17 twist barrels work better for the light bench rest bullets, but not for the 110 V-Max and 125grn BT.

Wildcat, i wasn't suggesting using the other bullets. was just wondering if a slower twist was tried with the bullets that are being used.

Dave, I think a slower twist barrel was used when developing the 300 Varminter, however, it did not work as well as the 1-15 twist with the 110grn V-Max and 125grn BT.

I know Richard did a lot of testing before he introduced the 300 Varminter to his customers. When I get a chance, I will ask about all the barrel twists he tried before he discovered the right bullet barrel twist combo.

It's a pretty specialized set up. I am looking forward to getting the 300 Varminter and using it for varminting this year.

(update) i just tested out my new norma loads today. the best load got .3590" with h4831sc and a 190grn sierra hpbt. I'm very impressed. The norma brass is only a couple grains less than a win case in capacity. I'm going out tomorrow to test it at 300 yards.

Diderr, I told you. The Norma Brass is good stuff. Let us know how it shoots at 300 yards.

Norma brass does not tolerate high pressure. It is soft and the primer pockets expand and you lose brass after one or two firings. The statement that it does falls in the same bucket as rifles that shoot in the 1s.

I got a cracked neck in one case after the first firing.
